The Last Guardian (Trico, Ico 3, Shadow of the Colossus sequel, etc.) [PS4]

Seems almost like Ueda does it all over again. Y'know, making a next gen game for a current gen platform.

Yeah, I'm thinking it's probably hard to top companies like NaughtyDog, Guerrilla Games, Insomniac, DICE, and many other great studios. And AI has always been a dodgy area in games. The Last Guardian wants that Griffon to lead your gaming experience. It may be a very tall order.

Would  to be surprised.

No. The reviews this early actually surprised me, the game isn't due out for more than two weeks. I wouldn't even have expected it to go gold yet.

All the reviews are super positive. SOTC at 1080p would really be heaven, some of the footage is really beautiful !Really felt like going back into that world again ! :) I think this is the only HD remake which is actually 1080p. Well done whoever made the remake. I was so disappointed when the Sly collection turned out to be just 720p.

So looking forward to replaying these again! SOTC i never actually played a great deal of for one reason or another. Time to put that right!

I was under the impression these games were 720p?

Things like sound and gameplay are the same as they were all those years ago, and that's what Team Ico aimed for and what the fans wanted. As for lasting appeal, the core gameplay is the same, but the package as a whole has been enhanced with features like multiplayer, plus trophies which undoubtedly motivate extended play. With that in mind, here's some comparisons based on IGNs past reviews:

Sound:
Ico: 9.0; SotC: 10.0; avg.: 9.5; this review: 9.0. (-0.5)

Gameplay:
Ico: 9.5; SotC: 10.0; avg.: 9.75; this review: 8.5 (-1.25)

Lasting Appeal:
Ico: 8.9; SotC: 9.0; avg. 8.95; this review: 8.5 (-0.45)

Overall Score:
Ico: 9.4; SotC: 9.7; avg. 9.55; this review: 8.5 (-1.05)

I do appreciate that standards and expectations have increased in the past several years, but here, we have a collection of titles that have gone down in history as two of the finest games ever crafted, in 1080p HD, 3D, with trophy support and extra features, all on one Blu-ray disc for $40... 8.5/10. It just seems deserving of more... Thankfully, with a Metacritic of 91 as of writing, at least most other critics agree.

Hm. Whaddaya know.

I wasn't complaining, by the way.. these are two of my favorite games of all time, this disc is a day one no-brainer for me. :)

Nah... I was curious myself. ^_^
I hope they didn't spend too much time on 1080p. I am more curious in The Last Guardian's innovation (Is the Ico/SotC port done by someone else or does it take up Ueda's team resources ?)

I thought it was being done internally, but I could be wrong. I know Ueda was supervising the port, if nothing else.

Even if it was done internally, they would have brought in people for it.. I don't think they would have pulled anyone off of the TLG team for this.

According to Digital Foundry it was done by Bluepoint Games.

I'm not sure what the wisdom is in releasing these now, and have them compete with a lot of high profile new games. During the summer would have been perfect.

Ico had a co-op mode with the other player controlling Yorda, that was unlocked after the first playthrough, as I recall. I want to say that was just the EU version, though.

Yeah, just the EU version. The EU version actually sported a fair amount of nifty little added features. (like a fairly out of place extra weapon, actual English subtitles and a bonus ending. All available in new game+)
