The Framerate Analysis Thread part 2

I tried both HDMI and Component and RE5 demo still had lots of screen tearing.

I barely noticed the screen tearing.

It is there, but not nearly on the same level as Uncharted for example. It's basically a bit more than in DMC4 (Xbox360), meaning here and there and basically only when you get all the enemies in front of you to be rendered in one frame. There's a also little tearing for like 2 seconds in the begining of the cutscene with the chainsaw guy cutting the gate in the 2nd scenario.
The game is overall surprisingly smooth considering the graphics and action/number of characters.

I got no noticeable screen tearing during game play at all. But during the chainsaw guy cut scene I got some. Not sure if that was do to the fact I'm playing it off a CD though. I'd like to see that cut scene again when playing off the hdd for the US demo.

Dead Rising on my 360 at 1080p through HDMI also exhibited a lot of screen tear, so I don't think it's the type of video connection

Mod Note: There is a reason for two separate threads.

I checked Sonic Unleashed on both PS3 and 360 and the PS3 version seems to run at 60fps with slowdown on some occasions whereas the 360 version is constant 30fps. There was probably some slight screen tearing too but I am not sure.

Anyone who can do a framerate analysis?

grandmaster, those videos are slick. Nice touch on the graph, tear ticks and fps. You have an awesome little utility here.

Do you have any plans on releasing this utility to the public?

The usefulness of the tool to the general public would be pretty limited - you can't measure internet videos or anything like that, for example.

@grandmaster
I understand that, but I am not the general public. ;) My background is in computer animation and video editing. My video box has an Intensity Pro card and a hard drive array. I find this very interesting and would like to conduct some game analysis' of my own. I don't want to flood this post with our chit-chat and it seems that I can't private message. Could you email me at "jaidek at gmail dot com"?
Thanks again!

Patch 1.04 out for ps3 gta 4. I don't know if it's simple placebo effect but to my eyes the frame rate has a rilevant improvement...anyone can veriry?

It's been out for almost 2 months now and no I haven't noticed any difference in frame rate.

Well the framerate does depend on what exactly you are doing and whats going on.

The only way to really test it is get in a fast car and go over one of the bridges or a long straight.

It's just as bad as it always was in my opinion.

Anyone got any idea of the framerate of Sonic Unleashed?

Considering its 880x720 2xAA for both consoles I would want to hope to god its a stable 60fps.

The report earlier in the thread is (I think) 30fps on 360 and 60fps on PS3. I would download the demo but my retail PS3 is currently out of commission (it seems to be only me that has dodgy PS3s but 100% functional 360s!).

Once I'm back up and running I'll check it out.

880x720?!

from the Image Quality and Framebuffer Analysis for Available Games *Read the first post* thread

Sonic Unleashed

880x720 (2xAA)

880 is not 100% accurate, but pretty close (maybe Quaz can confirm this)

The PS3 version's got slight blur maybe due to a poor upscale work

yes exactly 880x720 on X360

Sonic Unleashed barely runs at 60fps on PS3.

From what I've seen whilst playing through the first five or so levels, the game hits 60fps for a few seconds, mainly on the 2D side-on parts, and can drop right down below 20fps straight after that. By comparision the 360 build is mostly a solid 30fps, with slowdown only badly occuring in later more complex levels.

It's mostly 30fps and below with flashes of 60fps brilliance in between on PS3.

There are many drop of course on ps3 version but honestly 20 fps it isn't the average frame rate ...

No indeed it's not. It looks like the PS3 build averages closer to 30fps more than anything else, but it also slows down a lot, and only occasionally speeds up to 60fps.
