The E3 Thread! Who will come out on top?

So, what are the notable exclusives in 2007? Now that MGS has slipped I can see:

- LAIR
- Heavenly Sword
- UT 2007
- Haze

Anything else?

I'm not sure how you define 'notable', but the list of exclusives that I can make out are..

Lair
Heavenly Sword
Warhawk
Singstar
Hot Shots Golf 5
Wipeout HD
Gran Turismo 5 Prologue
Uncharted Drake's Fortune
LittleBigPlanet (debut/open beta?)
The Eye of Judgement
Folklore
EyeCreate (PSEye bundled software)
Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction
SOCOM: Confrontation
NBA '08
Time Crisis 4 (timed?)
Unreal Tournament 3 (console, timed)
Haze (timed)

..and a few others that popped up in Famitsu that probably won't see the light of day outside of Japan, but you could import anyway :p Along with the rest of the smaller PSN stuff (notably EchoChrome, the eyetoy stuff, EveryDay Shooter etc.)

And I'd say a lot of these games are quite notable for how promising they look, and simultaneously how gorgeous many of them look too. There's a few big brands in there, a lot of very promising looking original IP, and the odd darling of the industry (i.e. LBP) :p I think it's a very good mix to say the least. One thing that's struck me is just how high a proportion of Sony's own stuff looks amazing...I'd almost go as far to say that as far as apparent production values goes, Sony's stable is in a league of its own right now.

I remember some time ago, floating the notion that Sony should have a dozen or more PS3 titles out by the end of the year (and this was a while back, before some titles came out), and a lot of people expressing their scepticism of that. But it looks like they will easily do so, if not exceed that by a fair margin.

Since you bring it up, I think Sony did an admirable job of hiding teh fact they have barely any big titles coming in 2007.

- R & C

Warhawk, Haze, Drake's, Folklore. But I guess that's "barely any" :???:

Sure beats the hell out of the first year holiday lineup MS had last year, which was RB:V and Gears.

Well...Drake is another to add for sure. The rest I wouldn't consider big exclusives, Warhawk's an arcade multiplayer title, get real.

I'm not sure why you decided to bring up 360's first year, but if you're lookign for a fight you won't get it here. I agree many titles slipped making 360's 06 holiday fairly weak.

Titanio, thanks for the list, so as far as really big hitters goes it's looking like:
- LAIR
- Uncharted
- Heavenly Sword
- R&C
- SOCOM
- Singstar
- UT 2007
- Haze

I guess that's not too bad, provided they all make it in 07.

SOCOM but not Warhawk? They are both online MP games, at least Warhawk in a known quantity, it had a successful beta. It also has instantaneous 2-4 player split-screen online. I thought it was one of the best online games I have played and it a discount title unlike the $60 Shadowrun.

MS' show was about the business of selling 2007's games not 2008's dreams...

Great summation. ;) I might have to use that. hehe

Anyway, I think the change of the focus of E3 hasn't really hit consumers yet. It's a business meeting for the industry. It's not a fanboy geekfest anymore. MS, Sony, Nintendo, etc are there for business and they're talking to businesses. They are there to build relationships with retail and channel partners and to give them guidance for the coming year. The most important part of this time-line is between now and Christmas. So it doesn't do any good to talk to those folks about stuff that will be here a year and a half from now. Don't get me wrong I think they should be talking to these people about products coming after Christmas, but I'm sure that kind of stuff is more suited in closed door dealings. With that said, I don't think we can gauge the success or failure of the show just based on each companies respective initial briefings.

Oh, I was under the impression we were talking a full SOCOM sequel, if it's just an arcade title then it can't really be considered a marquee game.

Half that PS3 list will not make it out in 2007. It's guaranteed. Sorry guys, but MS is bringing:

Eternal Sonata
Blue Dragon
PGR4
Halo 3
GTA4
Assassin's Creed
Bioshock
Mass Effect
... I'm tired of typing

Not to mention there are already AAA titles on the system like Gears of War and Forza 2, and the price is $100 cheaper, and the Live is more developed, and ....

MS still has a huge content edge over Sony IMO.

the bolded are multiplat.

"It's guaranteed", what are you talking about? all of the games in scooby's list are to be released in 2007.

and whoever has a "huge edge" is completely subjective.

also, i don't know why Warhawk or SOCOM should not be included because they're online only titles. judging by the Warhawk beta and considering SOCOM was the best online game for PS2, they're sure to be hits, and any PS3 owner would know.

List wars! Am I on neogaf?

Heh, if you were on NeoGAF they would complain are these people from GameFaqs

Really its comes down to personal preference and my personal feeling is Microsoft has more content and better content but I think we will see it even up quite nicely though between 360 and PS3 over 2008.

you're all forgetting the single biggest ps3 title by far
Home
i believe thats coming this year

whats all this talk about limiting it to 2007, surely e3 should show all titles that will be available before the next e3 (in 12 months time)

Which doesn't matter at all this holiday.

I'm not sure it will move systems. It's cool and it helps, but you're a bit of a freak when Home is the only thing you would like to 'play'.

IMHO of course. ;)

There's this game called 'life' which beats Home. Photorealism and all that. It's rather nifty. :p

If you're talking calendar years versus financial years, that's true, though the full LBP is s'posed to be out by March. The download is s'posed to be out before Christmas though AFAIK.

Having played in the beta I'd add Warhawk. I'd also add LBP if it's in open beta this year, since for that type of game/service, that's really its starting point (in the same way most people would consider 'gmail' to be launched now even though it's still in beta, but in an open one). I'd also add Wipeout HD and GT5: Prologue. The latter is just a prologue, but the brand is so huge, and it will be a notable release this year. Wipeout HD, again becuase it's a big brand, and it looks like it'll be a fuller release. I'm not sure if it's fair to discriminate against downloadable games in certain cases, when Sony is fudging the line between retail and download more than any of others. I'm not going to say you should put Pain or Echochrome on that list, but Wipeout HD? Sure.

Hot Shots is also a pretty popular franchise AFAIK.

But of course, all of this is subjective anyway as to what's notable. But I definitely think Warhawk, LBP, Wipeout HD and the GT Prologue will be among the titles generating a lot of interest on the platform this year.

Agreed..

I think it's pretty clear M$ see there download service as a portal for short'n'sweet arcade titles, golden oldies, casual and pick-up-and-play five-minutes-of-fun style games..

Sony on the other hand seem to be offering the PSN as a very viable platform for developers who can't afford the heavy budgets of competing on the retail market against the multi-million-dollar, epic titles, and thus provide them with an affordable delivery system with the added benefit of reduced scope (giving them a better chance of standing out amongst the crowd)..

/Sorry for the diversion..

Agreed.

Sony is using PSN to offer a wider selections of games. Not just the low-end arcade stuff like on Live arcade but also bigger things like Calling all cars, LBP or Wipeout HD. Games that (for most people) never would have made a big splash as a blu-ray game @ full retail price because of their low budget nature.

Some minor issues concerning these PSN games:

- sony shouldn't release games on blu-ray AND offer a 'lite' version on PSN at the same time. This is very confusing because I don't know which one to buy. The online download may be cheaper and load faster from the HDD because it's not disc-based but the blu-ray version might offer more content, extra's and you get a nice gamebox.

- why aren't more third party companies jumping on PSN? Because two years ago a lot of anonymous developers were complaining about the high costs of next-gen development. PSN is perfect for their low profile 2D HD games. I'd like to see a new disgaea, metal slug or castlevania game on that LBP engine instead of SNES ports like MK2.

Oh and sony came on top with killzone 2 this year imo. MS also had a nice line-up. Nintendo ... well ... I'l just keep my mouth shut about that. :p

Sony > Microsoft >>>>>>>>>> Nintendo

home is like myspace on steroids
after a year im sure home will have more online hours logged than the rest of the ps3 games combined,

im pretty sure heaps of ppl play + pay for world of warcraft just to wander around
