The Big Forza 2 Thread *

It's 2xMSAA in-game and 4xMSAA in replays. The bright light reflections ramping up edge contrasts, and specular aliasing make it seem worse. Also it looks like the road surface gets a healthy dose of AF but nothing on the road sides.

I wasn't on the roads much, maybe that was the problem. The side bumpy pavement had really bad mip lines, if that is the term. I also didn't notice any IQ improvement in the replay, but I'll look again.

What happened to "free" 4x AA using tiling, this is a 1st party game and 16 months after launch.

I took that as a personal challenge, took a while working down from 55's, to 54's, to 53's, but FINALLY 52.66 :D

Damn...I totally gotta go to work

Bastard :|

I'm at work also but I think I got .51's figured out! can't wait to try it when I get home. I wonder what guys are running consitantly with a wheel.

One thing that's great about this game is that it really penalizes you for oversteer/sliding.

it looks a lot better during replay, and looks ok during gameplay, but the gameplay is really really good, and that's what matters.
Then you have all the time to appréciate a good quality replay.
Some pics i took with my phone:

game is on par with PG3. I am disappointed. There are a few issues with framerate (doesn't quite feel smooth 60fps) especially when using rev counter heads-up display. Bonet view has bad reflections (reflections feel slow and spoil the overall feel in this mode). Replays are awful, despite 4xAA graphics look rough and again framerate is very poor. An ok racing game so far, nothing special....still waiting for the next-gen forza :(.

I noticed no slowdown whatsoever. (except the reflections... i noticed that)

graphically because it is at 60FPS and 720p it exceeds PGR3 IMO but I agree PGR looks better or on par at a glance (which is a pretty high bar already).

But this game is more than about graphics. it's the racing, AI and incredible physics being calculated at all times affecting handling. to judge this game on graphics alone is missing a large part of this game. Not to mention the depth of customization and car building (swapping engines etc) and livery and car trading and Forza TV etc.

oh and if graphics is your thing... (albeit 30FPS 720p w/motion blur) ;)

Honestly, you're missing out if you don't give this game a chance.

My advice is find the car that works best for you, turn of all assists except ABS, no lines, race in the R class, and keep racing until you can win a race. At that point, if you're not hooked then at least you've given it a chance.

By turning of traction control, you'll actually feel the full power of the car. This makes it much harder, but also so much more fun. The mclaren is a great car as far as not having too much power, and great handling.

Forza has a steep, but short, learning curve, and you get better almost every race which makes it extremely addictive. And each car has it's own unique character, so it's almost like starting from scratch with each new ride.

As an aside - The Corvette C6 is an absolute beast to drive without TC, I managed to get it down to mid 53's though, boy do you ever have to feather that throttle.

I have no idea how people are noticing these slowdowns. There are none in gameplay. Also the motion blur is clearly not needed in gameplay. It does well to demonstrate speed. Those who've driven fast know that at even at 100mph things are pretty calm and it's not a blurry world as other games would have you believing!

I'm quite glad the resources went to the gameplay. It's refreshing to see a SIM actually being a sim and not some arcadey crap being passed off as such. I enjoyed PGR3 and the GT series but in terms of gameplay they're not even in the same league.

One nice thing will be the sim will hopefully keep the retards off Live so that when you do race against people they'll race clean due to the damage penalties and such.

So how's the AI? Is it improved from FM1? No more getting slammed from behind?

Can't wait to get home and try it out.

AI? Fallible. In a good way. It is great looking in your rearview mirror and see two cars fighting to gain the lead in a turn only to have the passer get two tires in the dirt and spin out. As far as the demolition derby stuff, they are pretty good about respecting your space but will try and take advantage of something if they see it. They aren't complete dicks, but they aren't gentle either.

Must be a whole bunch of people downloading the demo right now.

I normally average around 250KB/s in Live downloads. This is down to ~50KB/s (still 53% to go) :(

Can't wait to try it out.

Cheers

AI is fantastic, I tried to take the inside of a corner by late braking, i missed and understeered and the AI was smart enough to brake around it. I was very impressed. Also during starts, you can see the AI fighting for position amongst themselves, they will also break check you or get into your lane to stop you from overtaking them. :p

Gameplay-wise, hard to find any faults so far.

Didn't the devs say "dynamic MSAA" from 0x - 4xAA ingame depending on the load? ...

that was not final/inaccurate info.

final was 2xAA in game.... 4xAA replay... which is what the demo is. so you must not be seeing it right.

The graphics were all right but the handling was really well done. It's a shame there's no damage to the car performance in the demo though.
The game is soo much more fun to drive with Traction control and stability control turned off. The F40 is a blast if you can tame it.
I was thinking about trying to do that but now I'm definitely going to try.

according to Blimblim (Xboxyde with review copy)... Forza 2 w/wheel is HEAVEN.

I am so tempted to pull the trigger especially knowing that PGR4 is coming soon too.

Got mine of EBAY for $99 shipped! Comes with a copy of PGR3 that should net me $15-20 as well.

Now if only the postman would hurry up :devilish:
