The Big Forza 2 Thread *

It might look funny in photo mode, but I don't think it will look too bad while spinning at 60 fps. They have a different model for the rims that get swapped in after spinning at a higher speed to appear blurry. It would probably be a pain/waist of resources to swap the brakes as well. Hopefully the brakes don't actually stand still while the tire rotates?

They could just swap the rotor texture, I don't think I've ever seen moving rotors look anything but smooth in pictures . Someone should point this out to them.

The beauty about the graphics is that they have to permission to release every single picture from the manufacturer so these pics might be more than a few weeks old. Hence that they no doubt look better than what we see currently.

Source? And not necessarily better since there are always chances that they have priorities in other places (60fps gfx - 360fps phyisics etc.).

Should read up on the game one!

- development cycle was to lock engine at 60fps, and then add graphical features on top. So, any improvements will be graphical at this point.

- source is che chou an EGM podcast, every single screen needs to be approved explicitly by the manfucturers. Some are so anal that their car can not be shown to be trailing or leading any other car in the scene!

It doesn't seem like this process takes weeks though, probably a few days.

one to two weeks, depends on the manufacturer. They are very anal. Their cars are like trophies parading around a course. Most of them have really weird requests and requirements as you've stated.

^^ Yup.

I remember Ferrari and Mercedes not allowing EA to use their cars in Need for speed to race against cops before. They were still in the game in NFS:HP2, but you could only do time trails and stuff with it.

It's mostly the foreign car companies that are like this. Not surprising, cars get wrecked in Nascar on a weekly basis. We see it all Sunday night on ESPN. The fact that they are making a simulation is a factor in their favor. It was funny hearing how they had to go all the way up to Peter Moore to get involved in the licensing of one company. They said that 80% of their effort has gone to this company.

This is shaping up very well. The lighting balance looks a lot better. The first shot is ingame from the racing angle and reminds me a lot of how PD balanced out GTHD. Graphics are slowly shaping up to being a strength of this game... now lets see some 720p footage.

Looking much better indeed.

Actually nipping the heels of PD lighting now. I can't wait to see how it looks in the vid.

Is it just a camera/framerate effect I'm seeing, or is there a weird "double vision" motion blur type of thing going on in some of those 3-monitor shots? Especially the second and third linked?

Wasn't motion blur going to be replay only? Those certainly look like in-game action shots, not replay. I'd like motion blur in game, but that double vision looks kinda weird.

Thoughts?

If its at the start of a race where the camera rotates and fades around the car as seen in Gran Turismo, you get this kind of thing when it fades from one view to another.

Probably just effects of using a camera with shutter speed on a game.
Yeah, that makes sense... just getting exposure from two different frames. What threw me off was that a lot of stuff on screen didn't have the double-vision/blur thing going on, but now I realize all that stuff is more static and wouldn't produce as noticeable of a difference from frame to frame.
