The Big Forza 2 Thread *

The 1up show features Forza 2 this time, and the graphics look a little underwhelming still (it almost looks cell-shaded). But the features of the game seem quite nice - the custom car options are neat and the option to create either a unique car or a skin that you can applyl to any car you like is a nice touch also. The support for the wheel is supposed to be quite good too, with the game being designed around it from the ground up. It's definitely a unique game, now it's a matter of wait and see for me to find out whether or not it is my thing. If they get the core mechanics and online options right (i.e. the ability to set up a race with very detailed limitations on what car can enter), this game could work for me.

Oh yeah the multi screen setup is nice too of course. It's something that GT3 had already, but at least you can play online games in this mode which is neat.

Yeah, they looked messed up and lacking a lot of features. Maybe a different build from the recent shots, but whatever it is they don't look right (or good). The new damage model pictures look poor (especially the one losing the bumper) and 1Up indicated they are under the gun with 5 weeks left and a ton of features to work out, which doesn't sound good at all. Hopefully common sense will hit and it will be "done when it is done". As Dan notes, it is supposed to be around 2-2.5 years, so no point rushing it.

Are both screenshots from Forza 2?

According to 1Up they are... which makes it appear quite jarring. The following pictures is on 1Up as well as being used as a graphic on ForzaMotorsport.net

1up has a wonderful way of killing screenshots by resizing without re sampling. Apparently the colors were edited too.

Yeah 1up has completely killed screen shots in the past (see MLB2k7). I don't think I could trust those as being indicative of the game. 5 weeks left isn't that much time to finish if they plan on polishing up the graphics, but I think Che mentioned the game is still missing some planned graphical stuff that the team is working around the clock on completing. I've said I won't fully judge the game on any graphical merits until it's finished, and still I stand by that. Just like with other next gen games, screens wont do it justice anyway. More importantly is the game play then the graphics imo, which I gotta say the game play looks good if not great from what I'm hearing.

This looks like a loss... I hope they delay... this is their flagship race title and HAS to look like it. Dont fuck up MS!

Something is wrong with downsizing the image at 1up.
But look at the front rim, the rim bars are supposed to be there even with high speed rotation. They're just not there. It looks like the brake disc and the axle are moving in free space.

listening to the 1up yours show. It's seem obvious that there was a bunch of stuff turned off in the build they saw and these epics are from.

Where's the original screen with the correct color? Aliasing seems to be there from the beginning since the clouds are not affected.

If the game shots are demonstrating major aliasing that is a major indication that features were disabled as the game is still targetting 720p/4xMSAA. Seeing as many games are now using tiling/MSAA and this was a target from day 1 it would be surprising that aliasing was the final result, hence it is either artifacting or due to the team disabling graphical features for the demo.

Judging from that aliasing, it's odd that it looks like that in a 800x450 image. If it's because of 1up resizing, I'd like to know why clouds have no aliasing.

Here are the original miniatures from forzamotorsport.net:

You are discussing images that are more than 8 x as small as an actual screenshot, then increased in a most horrible way by 1UP by a factor 3.

What I wonder is what method they did use for enlarging the pic if what you wrote is correct.

What I could come up is by the nearest-neighbor method

but as you see the shadow beneath the car has the same type of aliasing/gradation as the car edges while in the 1up pic the shadow has no aliasing.
