TGS 2009 - Sony Press conference

I believe RooM is done entirely by the Japan team for their needs. It is totally separate from Home.

That may well be, but I still don't believe the name is a coincidence. ;)

FF8 PSN, Sweet.
I just hope it will come to euro store as fast as FF7 did. :)

You mean half a year or more later? In Japan FF7 was available for quite some time before it was made available in the US and Europe (and it sucks, that the German PSN version is German only too... don't want to play it in German!!)

But, I am anxious to replay FF8... much moreso than 7 (bought it from the US PSN (luckily my CC does work in the US store^^).

Yeah, I feel the same. Which is why my PSP runs exclusively over my US PSN account. Plus all the games seem to run better/smoother than what I remember playing on my PAL PSone.

Here's hope that FF8 is available on the US PSN tonight! *fingers crossed*

Somebody missed the biggest highlight of the evening/week/month/year!

YAY! :D

I absolutely love my PSP!
Probably going to skip this, but I'm happy all the same because it brings us one step closer to FF9 :)

May be cost and penetration. Every PS3 owner has a DS3.

Actually they don't, they at least have a Sixaxis, but yes I get your point. It still doesn't excuse the utter lameness of the idea.

The SIXAXIS is better than DS3 for dual wielding since it's lighter.

Well if it is funcionable I dont see why it should be lame

It's especially unwieldy for casuals, who may be turned off by the complicated controller. I guess that's why Sony stressed a few times that it's motion sensing for core gamers.

Yap, they only showed patched big name games. Out of the list of 13 games, 8-9 of them are new but not shown. :(

Demon Soul would have been a natural progression to tweak the gameplay for easier access.

RE5. Ever since RE5 was made HD-only and the Wii got the pointer-enhanced port there had been talk of how the inevitable Wii port would be he superior one (the PC version doesn't really enter the equation, for some reason). Now those people will have a chance to put their money where their mouth is. (I always thought it was nonsense.)

Except surely they've bought RE5 already? How many PS3 owners want RE5 who haven't already bought it? It would have to sell solely on the strength of the motion mechanic, and I just can't see it getting millions of sales myself.

Well, they've done value editions before, re-releasing a game with new features and often at a reduced price, still often gives good return of (after all quite low) investment. Think of DMC rereleases that allow you to play of a new character, or the kind of thing where RE4 was released on PS2 a year later with widescreen support and a whole new gameplay section, the various MGS S* releases, etc..

For the software company, sure. But I wouldn't want to base the appeal of a new peripheral on a reguritated game!

Didn't RE4 Wii Edition sell over a million for what is essentially a regurgitated game with a new peripheral? Not that this would come close, the circumstances are different, but similar things have happened.

My confidence is this add-on success has dropped consistently to say the least.

I agree with both of these points. Sony seems to have misunderstood the Wii audience
I'm not sure you understand Wii audience. Do you really think RE5 is a game for wii audience (even though RE4:Wii sold respectable)?

Also Sony needs to understand it's own audience first and in that LBP approach (maybe not necessarily that implementation) is pretty nice take. A traditional ("complex") control scheme + retardedly simple control scheme is great combo for those of us hardcorish gamers with non-gamer better halves.
- they're people who don't want a controller... not people who want a motion device AND a controller. I wouldn't be surprised to see a nunchuck-stile add-on come out very quickly given just clunky the controller-and-wand solution seem to be.

That's a possibility though there are already left-hand-only controllers out there, but speaking of wii audience, how many wii games that sold wii to that casual gamers need an analog stick?

Sony should have put analog stick on there not for that audience but for us.
In fact, you have to be pretty hardcore to be able to play with a stick on a motion controller I imagine.

It tells us what some of the devs are thinking. I actually think the potential is still there and getting more concrete each day. The same would hold true for Natal.

For something like the RE5 demo, it should be like this:
Player 1: DS3. Able to shoot and move freely at the same time.
Player 2: Motion controller. Move together with P1 automatically (No movement controls). Handles light source or sidearms. The light source may start with a flickering candle, to unreliable torch light, to flaming torch that can double as a weapon (or even light a dynamite for throwing -- with 2 motion controllers).

I can see the above setup work for my family where I am P1 and wife/girlfriend/children are P2 and beyond. It doesn't have to stop at 2 players. It will also showcase the controllers' strength independently. If there is only 1 player, make the game on-rail automatically.

The added advantage here is it allows a core gamer to bring in the casual gamers around him/her and be a hero. ^_^

For delivery mechanism, I would rename the current PSN game category "PS Eye" to a new one (like "PS Eye + PS Hand" ha ha). Make a bunch of SP on-rail games and co-op mixed controller games. Since the experiences are more condensed (no lull period, and no aimless wandering), I think it should be fun and intense for instant gratification, and for all ages.

EDIT: The LBP designers got it right, IMHO. Although it would be more balance and fun to use 2 motion controllers (or 2 DS3s) in that game.

If the nunchuck is really necessary, wait for DS3 stock to deplete and then make a break-apart or transformer controller.
