TGS 2009 - Sony Press conference

Looks like we've learned where the analog stick was hiding, on a dual shock you use with one hand while using the wand in the other.

Kind of late but no one posted.

White 250GB FFXIII bundle... assuming it's a white PS3 Slim? They'll probably sell a few of those.

White PS3 Slim should look nice.

The dual use of DualShock 3 + wand controller brought up a sore point. It would have been the Batarang + the wand if the whiners didn't complain so much.

I tried it before, it's not too bad. But yeah... doesn't look elegant.

Did they just confirm Home for PSP ? The live blog is not too clear about it.

In my hands a one handed grip is a little awkward in mid air. If I'm sitting and can rest part of the controller on my leg it would be fine.

Yes... like this ?

Whats stopping Sony from releasing a breakaway mc? This DS3 thingy..looks kinda half-arsed solution...something which i suspect Nintendo would never allow from a gaming perspective...and so would Apple engineers for ergonomics and user friendliness after a round table meeting with Steve Jobs...

That doesn't really sound like an elegant solution  Maybe it's more comfortable than it sounds in my head.

It looks a lot like how I tend to play Motorstorm, so for me it shouldn't be a very big deal. I do hope they also allow you to use the tilt functions on the sixaxis for this though, just to give me an idea of whether that could work.

I agree with both of these points. Sony seems to have misunderstood the Wii audience - they're people who don't want a controller... not people who want a motion device AND a controller. I wouldn't be surprised to see a nunchuck-stile add-on come out very quickly given just clunky the controller-and-wand solution seem to be.

Still, it hasn't launched yet, so there may be hope yet.

But Sony isn't Nintendo. Sony can't just suddenly start releasing the PS3 with just the wand, as many of its games will be best playable with the DS3, and that's not suddenly going to change.

Or they can do a break-apart DS3. This will allow them to migrate Wii users over to PS3 (which is what they hope to do according to prior interview). Developers can also share development cost for PS3 + Wii motion control games.

I still think they need their own killer app. May be EyePet is one but I need to try it myself.

I think "this is it" for them. They probably see the scheme as a first step, and then evolve from here. It's a common tactics employed by hardware vendors because they have to wait for old inventory to deplete anyway (if they want to redesign DS3).

I am curious about a dual stick use though. How does it apply in the RE5 case ?

Somebody missed the biggest highlight of the evening/week/month/year!

IGN said:
9:54: The bundle is called the PlayStation 3 FFXIII Lightning Bundle Edition. Price is 41,600 yen. Hard disk is 250 gigabytes. The system is white and has a red Lightning drawing on it... looks great! Kitase also announces that Final Fantasy VIII will be available tonight on the PlayStation Store!

YAY! :D

I absolutely love my PSP!

So if I got it right from the blog, the motion controller will become a second standard controller next to the DS3, with light vibration function confirmed, and have at least the following games with motion controls patched in, of which LBP and Resident Evil 5 were demoed live on stage.

RE5: basically like RE4 Wii edition, with dual ds3/wand controls demoed.
LBP: like Mario, with second player being able to influence the world

The rest that were mentioned: High Velocity Bowling (obvious), Pain, EyePet, Flower, as existing games that will have support for the new controller patched in.

Other news seems to be something like Home for PSP (or at least a universal lobby system) - Room sounds like a small section of Home, basically - I can't really imagine that the name is accidental. ;)
