Street Fighter 4

Anybody in London?

http://battleofdestiny.com/sf4.htm

When does the event take place?

BOD is a two day event, starting on Saturday 26th July and ending Sunday 27th July.

Where is it taking place?

BOD takes place at the London Metropolitan University Student’s Union " The Rocket Centre " Holloway, London, N7 8DB.

What games are being featured?

There are four:

Hyper Street Fighter 2 (Super and Super Turbo Characters only) on PS2
Tekken 5: Dark Resurrection on PS3
Capcom vs. SNK 2 on PS2
Street Fighter 3: Third Strike on PS2

Will there be casual play setups?

Yes! Just like all Neo Empire events, there will be many casual setups where you can play against other people at the event without the pressure of being in a tournament.

Why isn’t HD Remix being used at the event as a Tournament Game? It’s appearing at the event isn’t it?

Yes the game will be shown off at the event, and you will be able to play it! However, the game will not be the finished version. We therefore cannot run a tournament on an unfinished game.

HD Remix is on Xbox360, will I be able to use my own controller?

Neo Empire are in discussion with Capcom and Microsoft to offer players the opportunity to experience HD Remix using both Arcade Stick and Pad.

More concrete information will be posted on this site as soon as we get it.

Will SFIV really be at the event? It sounds too good to be true!

YES! The fighting game that everyone wants to play, SF IV, will be at battle of Destiny, we have confirmation from Capcom themselves!

How will playtime be arranged with SF IV? I don’t want to wait hours and hours to play.

Neo Empire will do our very best to ensure as many people as possible get to play the game as much as possible. On the day, based on the number of people at the event, the number of games a player will be allowed to play at any one time will be controlled via capping their winning streak.

Details will be given on the day, and will be announced via live PA to all players. However, please note that during the finals, all setups, including any SF IV cabinets will be switched off as a mark of respect for the competitors on stage.

You have to make reservations though. It's free unless you want to participate in the tournament. Then its 10 pounds.

Let me rephrase that. None of the more serious characters look hideously deformed when they get hit. Rainbow Mika also falls flat on her ass, but comical characters are meant to be comical. Blanka was always a comical character. He even charges a blender by sticking the cord into his nose. We're talking about the normal more serious characters.

Bad art is bad art whether they're moving or not. Forget getting hit, they're ugly just standing there. Ryu was suppose to be this wise and experienced fighter, but now he looks like a gorilla. Ken, the arrogant pretty boy looks like a hobo right now.

I think people have rosy tinted glasses when thinking about the old SF games and what they actually looked like in game.

I played SF4 today in a local aracde. I only played 2 coins worth, but I spent a good amount of time watching other people play it as well. In this particular arcade, there were 2 SF4 cabinets linked up. And right next to them were SFII Turbo machines. If anything, art and animation wise SF4 looked far far better. Much of SF2 was hilariously campy in comparison. I was laughing at how campy the animations for Chunlee were.

The only area where I had any problem with SF4 on a artistic level was with the backgrounds. But they were only poor in comparison to the other games that were nearby like Tekken6 and VF5R. But reletive to older to SF games, I would say they managed to maintain the spirit of the original games.

I don't look at graphics with rose tinted glasses. All good graphics eventually looks like crap given a few year's time.

What does animation have anything to do with bad art? Animation and art 2 completely different things. The characters can be badly drawn, but that doesn't mean their animation can't be good. Bad animation is inexcusable in this day and age, but bad art is still rampant.

I don't share that opinion, I sometimes play a bit of Street Fighter II Turbo (snes version upscaled with HQ3x filter) and I don't see much wrong with it. of course I have no SF4 to compare side by side with.

for a real laugh look at Mortal Kombat :p

Review: Street Fighter IV
.....................
...............
...................
...................................................Street Fighter is now as much a strategy game as it is a fighting game, a brilliantly orchestrated exchange between two players that concentrates on expression rather than limited movesets. It would be foolish to make comparisons between three games that will continue to be argued over and played in tandem with each other for years to come, but one thing can be said unequivocally. Street Fighter IV is not only the finest 2D fighter since… well, since Street Fighter III, but it’s a triumphant demonstration that classic mechanics can be updated and reimagined in the current videogame climate. It’s every bit the equal of its older brothers, and in conceptual terms is perhaps even beyond them in the way it caters for players of all abilities. This is, without doubt, a masterpiece of the genre.

9/10

i was in Tokyo back in August and Street Fighter IV was played extensively in the arcades throughout Akihabara. the game looks really impressive live and in motion.

I will buy without a doubt.
The only question is where to pick it up.

I think Toys R Us has it for regular price and a free figurine.
I usually buy at Best Buy with my Reward Zone card for points though.

I love the old school 2D plane fighters. Next up should be a 3D/2D Darkstalkers or even better Marvel vs Capcom.

has there been any word on ps3 version vs 360 version? need to know which one to pre-order.
360 version has AA & higher resolution compared to PS3 version (as usual). Something else to take into account though is the fact that the 360 d-pad is not ideal for games like this, unless you sand it.

? Wait a minute...what means?
From the IQ thread:
SF4 seems to have some very interesting properties regarding its rendering res, the game's normally running at the 720p, but when there're close ups (like when you're using supers) its resolution dynamically changes to 630p (1120 x 630) I did quite a bit of analysis on the shots posted at ruliweb, all the close up shots whether it's from cut scene or from middle of battle, they're all 630p. The link to the shots is..

http://ruliweb.empas.com/data/ruline....htm?num=16730

However this is the case with the PS3 version only, the 360 version maintains its 720p resolution all time.

From the IQ thread:

However I'll be wait to said that because it isn't so sure and there are different opinions in the same threads ...it's only based on ruliweb shots and unfortunately there aren't 360 version shots in the same moments to do a comparison.
