Forget the technology, the art itself is hideous. Ryu's eyes look like some bug eyed alien. I'm most worried about the gameplay though, since it sounds like they're removing a lot of good things from Alpha 3 and SF3. Parrying is one of my favorite techniques in SF3, and they're removing it from 4!

The thing is the fighter genre that was derived from the Street Fighter formula is pretty much dead. Not even online mode could saved X360 VF5. It's time to create a new formula.

Also they are doing the SSF2 HD, why don't the budget that goes into this SF4 went there instead ? They can add new characters and stuff. The gamplay system that is in place for SF4 can be added to some version of future SSF2 HD game. I just don't see the need for the new SF4 moniker and the whole new 3D graphics and stuff, if they just want to reiterate another one based on the original formula.

The SF series has always had improvement and changes with each new iteration. There are certain elements though that they shouldnt be changed.

SF 4 as it looks like now has lots of changes. Some things though are integral to the gameplay and would have changed it dramatically without necessarilly pulling many new gamers, but it would certaintly quarantee the absence of the existing fans.

I dont think the decreasing appeal of fighting games has anything to do with being stack with the old formula. It is that the aracdes are dead, and people seem to get more into other genres than ever.

VF5 has everything a perfect 3D fighter would need, there is nothing in the formula that has to be changed. It is just that the new generation of gamers arent attracted to the fighting genre any more. The general formula of the genre does not appeal any more.

Why not? If they don't appeal anymore why not change them.

What fans are left? Capcom Fighting Evo did badly. Most fans already abandon SF a long time ago. There are only few. These are the ones that still enjoy the games and resist change. They are very vocal too. There is no point in satisfying these people.

The SF EX3 the game you said was received poorly by fans, still sold a little more to MVsC2 on PS2. Compare to Mortal Kombat which moved on to 3D, MK did pretty well last gen. This gen fighters are struggling that much more. Staying with the old formula will kill the fighter genre, if it isn't already dead.

Yes, why not change it? Why stick with the old fans, why not create something new? The characters and the setting can established the link but the game is new and fresh. Why not take that route, if the director of SF4 has any confidence. The fact is I don't think the guy has any confidence, his last fighter was CFE, and now he is trying to take another rehash with the old formula that is on life support.

    Online alone won't revive fighters.

But you didnt get me. It is the whole genre that does not appeal anymore. It is not a specific formula. Changing wont do much unless they end it up into a different game. Almost a different genre. A spin off if you like.

Even the things you suggested at the beginning may not work at attracting enough new gamers.

Spin off in the gameplay can't be so bad, we got DMC, RE4 and Ninja Gaiden too name a few. I doubt NG would have been that successful if it remain 2D like the Arcade or NES part.

That maybe true, sure we have some dud like Castlevania but at least have a go at it. As it is now, it's stale and going 3D graphics already lost some of the fans.

Damn that looks badass. Never thought I'd be buying another Street Fighter game, but this one looks hard to resist.

Is it just me, or does Chun-Li make certain man-parts on you guys shrivel inside, whereas previously they used to say "Hey, baby...!"

What I'd like to know is who green-lighted the development of SF4 at Capcom? Not only is the franchise dead, but the traditional fighter audience (especially on the PS3/Xbox 360 due to poor sales of Virtua Fighter) is virtually non-existent. Maybe they are trying to revitalize their dead franchise, but unfortunately everyone else will be busy playing SSB Brawl. To Capcom I say, "good luck".

I think it's those terribly muscular arms she's developed.

At least she really does look able to kick your ass now.

A guy from GayGamer was on 1Up yours this week, and aptly commented regarding Chun Li: "Is this what guys are into now??"

Yeah, that was funny. Was a great show by the way.

Anyway, here arms are a "bit" much here ... but her legs are actually fine by me. :) Worst thing though is her thumb! Eeeow! Generally though I like my strong women to actually look strong in the game (and I don't really mind in real life either). Otherwise, you'll have to make them part lizard. ;)

Well Chun-Li's always been about the legs, but even THOSE just seem inhumanly proportioned to her torso anymore, so even if they have a pleasing shape, they just look... wrong. o_O

The main thing they need to fix is Ken's mullet. It's looks so ridiculous they way they've rendered it. Give him the long hair like the anime for the love of God!!

The main thing they need is to get Drug Control in there to get these guys off their steroids! Character design is an abomination IMO. It's like they took one oversized muscle-man model and stuck different heads on it. The result is boring.

I think that you miss something, capcom at some point was releasing too much SF XX...
People got bored and jumped in the Tekken/doa/SC band waggon.

It has been a while without a single Sf release, I think capcom did the right decision, they will capitatilize on the nostalgic effect! It's more about the timing than the actual strengh of the franchise, IMO.

Anyway as a gamer I would prefer a revamped Marvel thingy with air combo, etc and maybe with some possibilities to wander more freely in a 3D environment ;)

Yes they did release too many. My point was they are also releasing the SSF2THD Remix. That one surely serve as a better game for nostalgia purpose.

BTW Have you seen the videos from AOU08? The only nostalgia I get from those is nostalgia from those SF EXs. The game currently is slow. It’s about the original SF2 speed instead of Turbo or Super Turbo speed. Jumping look really odd too. I don't know what the Japanese reception yet, but to me the game is terrible at this stage.

Really they should have gone all new and appeal to the younger generation, instead of the old geezers.
