RAGE shooting plays pretty old school. Not much fancy stuff going on there. There are some other recent games that go old school FPS. It's not exactly a dead form of gaming.

Funnily , RAGE is feeling fun only with a controller, for the first tiem in my life a PC shooter feels better witha 360 controller ! That too from Id.

Should I get Crysis2 ? I mean, I am not interested in the main game, but its a beautiful engine and I would want to play some mods on it for sure. Is the mod community active for Crysis2? Are there any superb mods for it? I don't mean enhanced gfx mods but new levels or new stories or a comlpetely new game or something.

Or should I just wait till it drops to $5 next year?

It's the last day for the Steam holiday sales, so they're rerunning some of their best offers. For example:

* Dishonored: -50%
* Witcher 2: -75%
* Football Manager 2013: -50%
* Skyrim: -50%
* The Walking Dead: -50%
* Civilization V: -75%

etc.

Rage's shooting bits are gloriously good, IMO. Superb oldschool action at its best. On a PC, that is. The driving bits are effing WEAK. When played with mouse and keyboard, I don't have a controller... Should try to find a wired xbox controller, are there any black wired microsoft pads out there? Don't like most third-party pads.

I played the driving parts with a 360 controller and it was decent, especially by FPS standards. Definitely a steal for $5 though. I got the Scorchers DLC for $5 too and it was ok. Seems really expensive considering it's the same price as the game itself!

I picked up more Steam baggage in the last few months. Saints Row 3, DA:Origins, Crysis 2, Bastion, AC: Brotherhood, Witcher 2, Legend of Grimrock. Sigh...

Both the original cryses' campaigns are great, IMO. Very good gameplay, highly recommended. Also, none of that idiotic silent protagonist crap from crysis 2. Who goes around and say nothing? Not someone normal, that's for sure. You'd think it's some kind of fucking weirdo for chrissakes, especially if that person's carrying a couple pistols, SMGs, chaingun and a rocket launcher... If a person was standing in front of you and not responding when spoken to whilst loaded down with half a god damn arsenal, you'd turn and RUN, because you're dealing with a complete basketcase psycho. :LOL:

I don't know I could not complete Warhead's campaign because it felt too linear it almost felt like half life 2 n cry engine. I prefer crisis one's campaign over all other crisis.

maybe I should give it another try. In other news, I realised I had not played portal 2 up till now so bought portal 2 in the sale.

Ah ! This year's damage: doom3,Rage,Portal2&Crysis Warhead ! I guess that pretty good, last year I disn't even remember how many games I had bought in the sales in steam and GOG and GetGamesGo and Green Man Gaming. This year, I stuck to Steam and that too very few games.

But that doesn't mean I saved any money :LOL:. In fact, I preordered Far Cry3, NFSMost Wanted and Borderlands 2 on psn ! So, totall camamge is much more than last year :p !

Warhead is performing really bad on my system :18-24 fps only and a horrible lot of pop-ups everywhere :( and no anistropic filtering ! Very weird, cos I don't remember such a performance from the endless hours I spent in Crysis. Also, FC2 also performs like butter on my setup.
And people say Warhead is better optimised than Crysis.

Crysis and Crysis Warhead don't support anisotropic because of their parallax occlusion mapping technique.

You can disable that POM and keep the good texture filtering. Or not enable that POM, I don't know which way it is. This made me slightly mad, but what killed me is the game (Crysis 1) ran well but dropped in the teens when there actually was some action. (very high or mix of high and very high detail, 1024x768, on a gt 240).
