Square responds to PS2 HDD removal

Just a thought...why can't the new PSTWO use a USB based HDD? Afterall, it still has an USB port doesn't it? :?

Maybe because the PStwo only has USB 1.1 ports which is painfully slow (12 Mbit/s).

Yeah, prolly...I take it that the firewire port is still removed from PSTWO? If so, that was a backwards move, IMHO :?...and they expect the PSTWO to last for 10 yrs!

 ...my gues is that they're sheparding everyone off the PS2 online scene (well what there is of it ! :) ) ...and moving everyone onto they're master plan, PS3 cyberworld, cyberbollocks, skynet world domination! :devilish:

These days you get things like gmail for free. With network-ready PS2, modest amount of server-side storage for games is not unrealistic IMHO.

that still wouldn't help a game like ff . You need to patch the actual game

Did u know bill gates has a third nipple ?

I heard he doesn't have any balls...

Anyway didn't you say you you work as a sales clerk in a videogame store in f'n jersey? Last I checked there wasn't many games developers located there, nor many offices for videogame companies either so I wonder how you keep "hearing" all this stuff you claim. It's not as if what you've "heard" has been particulary reliable either I might add. Have you been listening to Tony Soprano's dopey nintendohead kid perhaps? :D

Storage may be relatively cheap (one wouldn't have to store one copy of a patch per user either in this case), but bandwidth isn't. Not if you scale it up to cover hundreds of thousands of users each downloading tens of megabytes or more on a regular basis.

Also, most broadband subscribers are still stuck with relatively slow services, sometimes with speeds as low as 128-256Mbit, though it is improving. However, even with the limited memory capacity of a PS2 it still takes ages to even fill half of that space with a slow BB provider.

Wow, where do you get your internet service from if 128-256Mbit is slow for you ? :p

There are more people playing PS2 online games than Xbox online games.

Halo 2 could change that but for now SOCOM II is the console online champion in terms of numbers of participants.

Not for long. Halo was Xbox's number one seller and has the most online ablities thus far. Considering many are buying Xbox Live for Halo 2 or are renewing their subscription, Socom II might lose it's tiara and title as prom night queen. 8)

no one big really , but they all have jobs .

a friend of mine (who was a grade above me ) just got an internship with namco . Sorry to say i haven't had a chance to talk to him since he got the job (a few weeks ago)

Others are at small dev studios. Another was working on uxo as a lvl designer before the game went under .
