Sony Vita Games Thread

I really want a DNLA certified media player on my Vita. Streaming films over the network would be so cool on that screen.

Yes, I was actually surprised / disappointed that that wasn't in there day one. I would have expected it.

Aced my first area by the way (all golds, on the last one). 3 more to go. I got my trophy for getting the total time under 10 minutes before I got all golds by the way. It's hard work, but very satisfying.

Having played with Vita for a few days now I can say it's revitalised mobile gaming for me.

Actually I have used it at home thus far, but I can see it'll be my preferred platform on the go. Even at home I don't feel like I'm missing too much when playing with Vita instead of a full-size console.
The games look just amazing on that gorgeous oled screen, Uncharted really could go for a PS3 game!
The Motorstorm RC is fun, but some of the fonts are just too small for Vita. That doesn't affect gameplay, but they could've redesigned the PS3 screens better for Vita's smaller screen.

The ergonomics of the device aren't as good as I imagined would be, it's still a bit difficult for me to use the analogs and any buttons the same time, guess perfect ergonomics would've only been possible if they'd made the device considerably larger.
I'd like the device to rest on my palms while playing, instead now I have to kind of hold it with the tip of my fingers, then I can reach the buttons without too much effort.
Funny though, my hands haven't yet felt cramped after prolonged play like they do when I play with PSP or 3DS, so they must have done something right with the compromises considering ergonomics. The light weight is a big plus for a handheld.

Amazing device and very good launch line up of games. Let's hope Vita becomes a success it deserves, this is what mobile gaming should be!

Also, was kind of surprised there's no kind of music visualizer. Hope they release one in a future update, like they did for PSP!

Just checking in with a192/192 for Motorstorm :) Platinum still a ways away though, as total time needs to be under 40:00 ... At 41:38 now :cry:Still puts me at 199 in tge world though.

I actually like the graphics of Motorstorm RC better on the Vita than on the PS3. The PS3 version runs slightly smoother, lighting (especially at night) seems a bit more dramatic, and tracks like Sun God Mesa sport some nice bloom effects. Alas, enter hideously low resolution shadow maps to ruin everything.

I think Wipeout is easily the most impressive looking game so far as it doesn't drop the ball in any graphical aspect. It has the geometric complexity, the effects, the lighting, the textures, the framerate and it also has the image quality. (full native res with very good AA)

So.. What do we know of the Quad A9 CPU performance in the Vita? How does it stack up to the CPU architectures placed in the consoles? (PowerPC Tri Core/Cell)?

Benchmarks place this thing at, roughly, 2006-2007 desktop CPU levels from what I'm reading..

For reference, Xbox 360 Xenon can push 19,200 MIPS at 3.2 GHz.

Looks like decent Vita sales in the UK, at least if you look at the charts (and that's only retail, I expect digital sales for this device to be decent as well). Numbers should still follow, but this is what we know so far from Chart Track:

Almost a year after Nintendo’s 3DS launch (week 12, 2011) and we welcome Sony’s Vita hand-held, available in Wi-Fi and 3G versions (79% of Vita sales in week 1 were for the Wi-Fi version).

There are 23 Vita launch titles at retail (compared to 16 for 3DS week 1), but 2 key Vita titles account for 50% of sales units and lie at No1 & No2 on the All Formats Chart. Sony’s Vita ‘Uncharted: Golden Abyss’ is the new No1 (31% of week 1 Vita sales) and EA’s Vita ‘FIFA Football’ is the new No2 (18% of Vita sales).

In comparison, the week 1 No1 on 3DS ‘Super Street Fighter IV 3D Edition’ accounted for 15% of 3DS week 1 software sales. Last week’s No1, THQ’s ‘UFC Undisputed 3’ drops to No3 (-53%) and Ubisoft’s ‘Rayman Origins’ climbs 31 places to No5 (+197%), powered by a new Vita version, No4 on the Vita Top 20.

The next new entry at No11 is Sony’s Vita ‘Wipeout 2048’, actually No3 on the Vita Top 20.

I haven't bought Rayman Origins yet. Will do so soon.

I have a few more PSP games to get too.

WipeOut is amazing even though I don't like the franchise, or racing, much. I would like the PS3 Uncharted to be more like the Vita Uncharted game (So many things to do !).

Other than that, good for Vita... but Sony still has a l-o-n-g way to go to impress everyone. Hope they have a long term dedicated team to evolve Vita OS. Many areas to enhance or fix to keep the momentum going. ^_^

Wipeout is great as long as the framerate remains stable.
In races it often falls dramatically when you're behind and there's lots of effects and explosions, as there usually is if you're not leading the pack. Time trials and zone mode are fine and that's where the game truly shines.
Having used to silky smooth Wipeouts, this almost ruins the game for me :(

I've noticed some pretty bad tearing and framerate dips in Motorstorm RC too, Uncharted has thus far been quite stable.
I think I did have my own music on the background in those games, must try if Wipeout will run more smooth without custom soundtrack.

1.2 million Vitas sold and 2 million software units (including digital). Not bad going. Wonder if they can keep the momentum up?

Never noticed any serious framerate problems in Wipeout to be honest, and I'm almost done with the campaign. (all elite passes too) It's just not the silky smooth 60fps refresh we've been blessed with in Wipeout HD/Fury. I'm pretty pleased with the game's performance.
Motorstorm has more noticeable performance issues, though. (doesn't have an effect on gameplay, though. For whatever reason I'm actually doing better ont the Vita version than I do on the PS3)

I guess it was my custom soundtrack and other apps that I had open. Now that I played the same track again with games own soundtrack, the framerate was good.

They should focus on their software updates at this stage. Fix the freezing and potential data corruption issues first.

Momentum should drop off and regain later. I wonder if 2 mil software sales include PSN PSP buy. Some of the early adopters went back to purchase more PSP games for the Vita.

Pleeeaasssse, can someone point out a place where I can buy NGS+ online in the US? the game seems especially scarce.

would imagine that its vita softwares only, with only a handful of software available so far, its a good way to send the message out to all the 3rd party developers to tell them to stay on board. 3DS software sales is probably millions more but only mega 3rd party ip and nintendo big ip are able to achieve those kind of numbers. 3DS still have the same problem as most of the nintendo systems, where ppl buy nintendo system and mainly for nintendo games. I agree, stability firmware update should be their #1 priority, then theres the browser, DLNA, skype, youtube etc that really need to come sooner rather than later. PS suites also, havent heard anything and seen anything since then. I hope these functionality update wont takes 3 years like PS3 browser.
