Sony PSVR value versus competing VR solutions *spawn

Clearly a $1000 PC costing ~43% more than the PS4 version will offer a better experience.

I've totally lost the point, but what I'm saying is firstly 43% more cost is not a marginal amount and secondly I expect most general buyers to go for the ease of use over better performance.

Reading back it looks like you were just passing a personal PoV on why you will be buying Oculus which is fine, it has nothing to do with PSVR though so maybe that's where I crossed my wires and lost the plot.
its cool

As to your point on cost. Sony pointed out the head set will cost the same as a new platform. LIke I've said in this thread before sony has released new platforms from $300 (vita) to $600 (ps3)

I would think an accessory that's priced the same as the console itself might be a very hard thing to sell. I'm not sure a lot of people will buy a $350 console and then a $300-$400 head set.

I don't know that it'll be that expensive. I'm also pretty sure they'll offer a package that'll be PS4 + camera and headset. If the PS4 is $350, the headset is probably something like $300; they could offer a combined bundle that gives a $50 discount, so $600. That's approximately the same price the PS3 was on release and that seemed to sell pretty well. ;)

I dunno , even oculus said they would be higher than their dev kits which are $350. I don't see sony coming in under that. They hardware is pretty similar .

I think the most the PS4 + PS VR bundle would come to is $700/$750 - if you ask me that's pretty good value. That'll be a complete gaming virtual reality system, with console, pads, camera, and headset. How much does a TV alone cost these days?

Obviously price is a major factor, but it'll still be the cheapest and easiest way for people to experience VR...so that is a bonus.

You can get 65" Sammy's and Panny's for that (<£2000 inc VAT). Vizio sounds like a cheaper brand (it's certainly not available in the UK), plus the 80" is $4000 at Amazon and Walmart. $700, maybe £500-600 total, nets you a good TV though. <£500 will find you a 40" Panny 4k 3D TV.

Vizio's long awaited premium quality "Reference" series of 4K screens that support HDR and insane contrast/brightness start at $6k and go all the way up to $130k.

Vita was actually $250 at launch [but what truly killed its momentum are memory card prices].

"...scenes will get bright enough for your eyes to dilate..." Why do people get this wrong? Dilate is to expand and get larger. In bright light, pupils contract. I thought the analysis of ND someone did saying his pupils dilated was a one off, but maybe this another 'the world's backwards' thing. Hopefully it doesn't spread to childbirth with people confusing dilation and contractions...

btw is there any rumor about No Mans Sky delay? the dude keep saying "soon" but the gme nowhere to be seen. I hope it get delayed to give morpheus support..

its the only space game with cartoon graphic and crazy creatures!

@Shifty Geezer those weird reversed word usage also happened on other area too :(

Well.

Google cardboard would be the cheapest for android users at $10 or so
Gear VR would most likely be next.
I believe Apple has a cardboard like thing too.

If you continue to abstract the parts someone already own, phones, multi-gpu pc, consoles, the lowest cost is the DK2 and pc I have at work. It costs zero dollar if you already have it, right?

well google cardboard will work with almost any modern android phone. Those range from $50 to $750 dollars. So you could walk away with VR for $60 bucks. In 2010 q3 alone 100m android phones were sold.

Google Cardboard works with iPhone too btw. It's also a bit crap. I'm thinking of getting a Homido for my iPhone.

You wish to point out which $50 phone is powerful enough for VR, and can do at least 90hz refresh on an oled screen?

There is a minimum requirement for having a good experience and to receive the third party ports. The user base I am talking about is a mass of gamers ready to pay $70 per game, which enable the production of AAA games. So far we have three, oculus, vive, and morpheus. That's it.

Actually there are a few more, and I wouldn't completely discard Gear VR as it is apparently quite good, but otherwise your point stands.

Your including Morpheus with oculus and vive dispite the gulf of performance between the platforms but your dismissing an android phone ?

One of the most popular games right now is minecraft and any phone of the last 4 years can play it just fine.
