Sony Game Studios Acquisitions [2022]

Thank god its Sony and MS buying up gaming studios.

For now . Other big players will start to jump in. For as much money as Microsoft has , Apple has more. It just remains to be seen who they end up purchasing. I actually think for them EA would be a good purchase (I'd hate it but it is what it is)

And that's the question regarding after studio Apple will go for example.

Why does MS get crap for something that has been standard industry operations since almost its inception.
Prior to Bethesda and Activision, what/when were the last large, multiplatform producing game studio acquisitions by another console manufacturer?

Sony just got access to a lot of players outside of their console platform, and that userbase will probably grow a lot after Bungie releases their future IPs. They are working on a new game for a while now...

It would fill their shooter gap and deny Destiny to MS. Sounds like a good move, though Ranger would hate it.

Edit: I was responding to the original rumor hours too late. :)

What would Apple even do with a company like Bungie. Meh.
Lol, not sure if this is sarcasm to history, so maybe I’m whooshing here;

MS pulled Bungie in particular Halo away from Apple after it was announced for Mac and look where it got them for instance.

Given how large Halo and Destiny is, I imagine Apple can do some damage, especially with the way M1 has been going, and their dominance in mobile and tablet space.

It wasn’t sarcasm so thanks, I didn’t know all that!

And the key part of this acquisition that is unlike any other acquisition by Sony or MS WRT gaming. [edit] Just brought to my attention that Mojang is actually a subsidiary of Microsoft.

Bungie will be a wholly owned but independent subsidiary of Sony. Bungie aren't technically part of Sony's game studios.

That means that while Sony does own Bungie, Bungie operates independently of Sony. Of course, they'll likely interoperate with Sony's gaming studios, but they don't necessarily need or require Sony's approval for any business decisions that they make.

It also means that for the most part Bungie decides what games Bungie wants to make. Bungie gets to decide who they want to publish their games (probably PlayStation, but could be another publisher if they want). Bungie gets to decide what platforms they want to make games on.

Regards,
SB

Zynga bought peak for 1.8B , Trencent bought Leyou for 1.5B , Ea bought Code masters for 1.2B , Trencent bought Super cell for 8.6B , Activision bought king for 5.9B and then MS bought Mojan for 2.5B tThe zynga deal took place prior to Microsoft / Zenimax deal
