Oh hey, I never noticed that Mojang was organized as a Microsoft Subsidiary.

Of all the companies you listed, only Microsoft is a console manufacturer.Zynga bought peak for 1.8B , Trencent bought Leyou for 1.5B , Ea bought Code masters for 1.2B , Trencent bought Super cell for 8.6B , Activision bought king for 5.9B and then MS bought Mojan for 2.5B tThe zynga deal took place prior to Microsoft / Zenimax deal
How much money has Destiny made? Or is making? Never seen anything about it.
And the key part of this acquisition that is unlike any other acquisition by Sony or MS WRT gaming. [edit] Just brought to my attention that Mojang is actually a subsidiary of Microsoft.
Bungie will be a wholly owned but independent subsidiary of Sony. Bungie aren't technically part of Sony's game studios.
That means that while Sony does own Bungie, Bungie operates independently of Sony. Of course, they'll likely interoperate with Sony's gaming studios, but they don't necessarily need or require Sony's approval for any business decisions that they make.
It also means that for the most part Bungie decides what games Bungie wants to make. Bungie gets to decide who they want to publish their games (probably PlayStation, but could be another publisher if they want). Bungie gets to decide what platforms they want to make games on.

Yeah. Destiny 2 stays multi. It says nothing about anything after that.
Also, clearly this isn’t Sony “panic buying”, simply because this kind of deal has been months in the making. You don’t just pick up the phone after seeing MS buying Activision and go ‘let’s do this’.
So, is this aquirement made by sony any 'better' then what MS has done or is doing? In my book their both as 'bad' or 'good' however you want to see it.
MS got alot of flak for their aquiring here and even at DF.
What is the relevance of this?Out of the companies that MS bought how many only make console games ?
I doubt this is a knee jerk reaction, I mean I would love to have $3.6Bn to spend on dumb knee jerk reaction. It's not what you do, no matter how much money you have. (In my experience, people that have a lot of money, knows the value of said money and they do not part with it easily)
Which makes me wonder about the strategy, I mean GaaS and Destiny + future IP seems way too steep. But then again I have no idea bout the numbers Bungie racks up, but...... man how good are they at passing gaas

I'm still trying to make sense of this to be honest. The one thing that I keep going back to is that this seems to point towards more of a multi-platform approach from Sony in the future. Day and date releases with PC and maybe others in the future.
I agree, even then, I can't see how this is a response to MS buying AB necessarily - except slightly more motivation to shore up your FPS line.
As Cheapchips said earlier, if you spent 70B to take a slightly larger slice of the 300million console owners/revenue, you failed. MS wouldn't spend 70B to get back barely any return. There is a larger play in the works here to keep these particular companies away from new entrants while leveraging them for whatever is next.
I see these moves nearly as a coalition against the big incoming 3 except they are looking out for themselves. The landscape in the retail console space has not changed all that much since these acquisitions, and even if there is some change, it's not bound to be major. But amazon, facebook and google coming in with committed funding, that would change the landscape. So while the big 3 are still getting their act together, MS and Sony are making moves and announcing now that they will continue to make them.
This is just how I view it.
Microsoft has started the acquisition wars. This is terrible for gaming.

Nintendo created everything by themselves. They are Nintendo. They are Zelda, Mario and what not. Why? One wrong move with a new generation of hardware can force a hardware manufacturer to bow out completely.
Owning a ton of relevant content provides for a more stable Sony and MS. Put it this way how has Nintendo and all the IP that it owns and use to exclusively support their platforms hurt the overall gaming market?
If it weren’t for Mario, Zelda, Pokémon or whatever dozens of IPS that have been popular at one time or the other, Nintendo may have been crushed by Sony and MS.
The problem with exclusivity is that it hampers market participation which opens the door for third party titles. Unless a platform owns a dominant market share, the potential is always greater for a multi platform title. It can have a bigger development as well as marketing budget. It’s the reason why the biggest IPs in the gaming space aren’t exclusive to one platform.
Let MS or Sony take COD, Destiny or other associated titles exclusive. Third party titles will more than likely take their place.
Bungie must be getting something more out of the deal. They were already making money, so why give up yours profitable business to be owned by somebody else who takes the profit without getting something in return? That would be a weird decision. There is probably more to it.I dunno. Based on what Jim said they aren't going to be touching Bungie, just taking it's live service money

I don't play Destiny so based on known facts today, I'm not fussed about this acquisition.
