you know of another device that does the same for less?

PS2, assuming "what Wii does" refer to playing games and of course without the nanchuck controller but its got EyeToy ;)

It seemed his comments was more referring to Asutralia only where this Christmas home consoles available will be Xbox360 , Wii and PS2 , in order of pricing. But its a PR what else to expect ?

sorry, i though we were in the 'consoles more than consoles' age already? - add to the mix MiiChannels, browsing, messaging, downloadable content, home media tools (all that usable through the eye toy) and wireless-flavoured networking, and you'be in the 'what wii does' category. then bump up the resources a bit : )

btw, how much is a ps2 + an eye toy these days? i know the station" is ~$120 us, but i'm not sure about the 'toy (pricegrabber says $30-to-$40)?

he said the 360 was too expensive because it targetted too narrow of an audience.
And the PS3 somehow isn't? That's laughable. If anything the PS3 is targeting, although likely unintentionally, a narrower audience due to its higher pricepoint and relative lack of choice. I don't see anything the PS3 can do that the 360 can't out-of-the-box or with add-ons purchased separately at the consumer's discretion. Not to mention the 360 has a much larger and more varied game library right now and come this holiday season.

I'd like some of that 'Corporate PR Hashishâ„¢' this Sony guy's smoking. Seems to really make you trip.

Michael Ephraim's quote clearly makes sense in context - which is what we should be discussing really.

He's essentially just saying, 'PS3 is expensive, but it's worth it. These other systems aren't cheap themselves, and for what?' And his focus was really on the Wii more than the 360.
Actually, I don't think he was talking about value (defined as features/price) at all. I think he was speaking about how expensive the product is compared to what its market expects. It's a, shall I say, convenient grounds for debating how expensive is too expensive. It's not wrong, of course, just convenient. Less convenient for him would be a discussion of the size of the markets in question. :p

You have not absorbed enough of SonyThink(TM). Let me explain to you in simpler terms:

The 360 is being sold to the narrow audience of people who don't care about MGS4 and FFXIII, while PS3 targets a huge market of people with more diverse tastes, like MGS4 and FFXIII.

The 360, like the Xbox before it, has only shooters, while the PS3 has a diverse library of unique exclusive titles, like MSG4 and FFXIII.

With no add-ons is the 360 capable of playing MGS4 and FFXIII, a simple trick which the PS3 can do right out of the box.

The variety (perceived by you, in no way real) of the present 360 library pales before the future inclusion of MGS4 and FFXIII in the PS3 library.

The utility gained by playing each of MGS4 and FFXIII is estimated to at least $500-700, twice that if you're Japanese, so the PS3 is practically underpriced by a factor of 2.

Now wait a minute, isn't what you just described 'value?' ;)

Personally I think all 3 consoles are too expensive. Currently, the 360 is costing me more than the other two, but I'm sure one day they all going to cost me the same...There should be a cap on the cost, we should pass laws to make sure it doesn't cost too much. I mean, I spend too much time with my 360, I lost relationships, friends and work over it. When will MS stop ripping me off? Everytime, they release a new XBL game, I've to spend a couple more hours of my life on it. DAMN you MS!

TrungGap I can't tell whether you're being sarcastic or not... but I guess either way, spend less time on the video games man! :p

Side story: My brother shocked me yesterday when he informed me he had gone cold turkey on World of Warcraft and deleted it off of his computer in order to save his relationship with his girlfriend. I wasn't sure whether to be happy due to this bold move or frightened that he thought the only way he could meter his time on it was full-out deletion. And I'm still not sure!

Maybe he means by what he personally thinks they're worth. The PS3 is worth $10,000, the Xbox 360 is worth $10, and the Wii is worth $0.000000001.

But don't ask me to try to come up with "worth." The nature of the industry is so financially perverse right now that if you don't lose a billion dollars in your first year of operations, the consumer won't buy your product, and software frequently just eats money. I think Wii may be overpriced by $25-$50, but I haven't the foggiest what to say about X360 or PS3.

Yes, I'm being sarcastic. Though, I should be cutting back my hour playing games. One of my friend, married a girl he met online (EverQuest). They're still marry, but they haven't been logging as many hours on to any games as they did before. I guess, game does suck you up and spit you out dry.

And I agree with "fearsomepirate" said...it's all about worth. Each individual with have different needs and priorities. If you want the awesome graphic, then 360 and PS3 is the way to go, but if you're casual gamers that cares about the gameplay without needing to understand the complicated controllers like on the 360 and PS3, then the Wii is the best value. Now having said that. It means unless it's apple to apple comparison, then this PR is really much about nothing.
