So, do we know anything about RV670 yet?

I have one question? Would somebody know if you increase clock frequency of the memory in ATI's overdrive option in the picture above as example: would that also increases CAS-latacy for the memory; if so, it means you will gain bandwidth but loose better utilization of the memory, just like DDR2 800Mhz 4-4-4-12 going to DDR2 1066Mhz 5-5-5-15.

I doub't it's changing it's latency dynamicly but i could be wrong also.

Even if he has a QX9650 OC, the 3870 in CF scales very well in order to obtain 20K 3D06 Mark score. From what I've seen from a single 3870 that's impressive. ;) Unless there are other factors not know yet :?:

Also, seeing a 15.8K 3D06 Mark score from a 3870/3850 CF using Vista makes me wonder if the 20K 3D06 Mark score is from Vista or XP SP2?

I am really interested in CF scores as I have a P35 board. I need rplace my HD2600XT with a decent game card. It's my place holder card for my system. I am running a o/c 3.6 GHZ quad and want a better video performance.

As I see it...

I can get a 8800gt and probably have the fastest card (fastest in my mind until prven otherwise during review week) or I can get 1 or 2 AMD cards.

So clearly for speed the fastest will be AMD because it so far is the only card that can run multiple on my current new board.

This SLi only on nVidia boards may hurt nVidia in the short term as all of us with new boards P35/38 realize that a dual setup is possible but only using AMD.

Switching from my setup to a 680i is a joke and there is no 780i and even that I would be better to spend the money on 2nd video card instead of motherboad.

So I am really interested in 8800GT scors versus HD3850/HD3970 single card scores but also various CFire scores.

Did anyone notice that GPU-Z is reading 416 shaders for the 3870? With only 4.8 G/Pixels for pixel and texture fill rates and only 72 GB/s bandwidth I wonder what the R680 will bring to the table? However, once NDA is lifted we will know for sure.

How does this make any sense? Either you can spend around $X or you can spend TWICE that $2X for two cards. If you're looking to spend $2X, why not get one 8800GTX (Ultra ?). Thats the price range you're looking at anyways. And with a single card you will never be at the mercy of the drivers with Crossfire support.

Thanks! :) But still, I wonder why ATI originally clocked @ 1200MHz x2 = GDDR4 2400MHz, but now changed default to 1125MHz x2 = GDDR4 2250MHz ??

I wish to know why was so important to clock slightly lower for the memory.

His post makes sense to me...
.
I don't think 3850 512MB (and perhaps even 3870) crossfire is going to be the price of a GTX after the gouging wear off, and with a little love and finesse (cooling+overclocking) I think it might very well be a better solution than a GTX most of the time. Crossfire support is looking pretty good judging by those leaked AMD slides (if they are anything to go by), and you know with the 3870 X2 being their flagship, and the way R700 will supposedly work, they are going to working their ass off on perfecting performance and compatability.

Besides, perhaps he wants to spend ~$200 now (to get past having a 2600) and ~<$200 later, in which case neither Nvidia product is feasible. Makes sense to me...Some just don't have $400-500 to spend at one time and/or they need to upgrade quickly as to not hold back their system.

I agree with him that with the ~$150-$2x0 lineup that ATi is offering, crossfire (or rather multi-gpu/card) now seems like an actual option, even if eventual, especially for those with budget-minded folk with with P35 boards, where-as before it was an absurd luxury, over-lapping product redundancy, or just plain idiotic. Seems to me 3800 crossfire, price/performance/practicality-wise, actually has a place. Not such a crazy notion when ATi is also sanctioning it as their next high-end single card.

It leaves margins for the AIB vendors to exploit and make some dough off of factory overclocked versions. It's not often (anymore) you see OEM products released with mem speed indentical to the rating on the chips. Don't worry, you can still buy a cheaper one at said clock and overclock it to at least 2400mhz.

Remember that the memories specced for 1200/2400MHz are specced for that on certain voltage only, dropping to 1125/2250MHz might also have been made to lower the voltage a bit to get boards overall TDP a bit lower.

Nice...

For those who play the numbers games, this part "8800GT was a tad faster in Crysis, but only by two frames." translates into "The 8800GT is 13% faster in Crysis."

The reviewer did state that the ATi part had better IQ thanks to proper water reflections.

The min framerate is quite the difference between the 3870 and the 8800, 9.4 fps vs 0.4 fps. However the max framerate is 18.05 fps vs 31.43 fps. I'd really like to see a histogram.
