I'm not overly familiar with the PowerPC architecture. Is there anywhere that gives a quick rundown of the main differences (pros and cons) between it and x86?
The Efficeon is not designed for high performance in the same way an AthlonXP or Pentium based processor is. The Efficeon's competitor is the Pentium-M and a story on EETimes implies a 1.1GHz Efficeon is faster than a Pentium-M 900MHz but that will not get you very far in a console designed to push graphics at high speed.
Transmeta does have some interesting code morphing technology but I doubt MS are going to use this to emulate the XBOX on XBOX 2.
I also do not believe AMD or PowerPC is going to be in XBOX 2 but rather something IBM has been working on for a while. As others have speculated SiS may not design the chipset as a whole but certain integration of its Wireless and perhaps Southbridge technology.
