Shadow of the Colossus

This game could be the best game to come out this year on the PS2. With Zelda now being delayed until next year this should easily be the best game on horseback.

We're happy to report then that the most recent build shown at this year's Leipzig Games Convention is cleaner, crisper and smoother than any we've seen in the past, which leads us to believe Sony and its amazing development team are more than capable of making the constant 30 frames per second goal a reality.

Unfortunately, we didn't have time to check to see if all the improvements remained intact when the demanding colossi appeared on-screen. Some careless jerk who was at the kiosk just before us had led our hero too far from any colossus for us to get back in time and try things out. Those who know of Shadow will understand that the trek alone can take upwards of 20 minutes, which isn't so good in convention time.

I have high hopes for this game. Ico was fantastic in terms of being an "emotionally engaging" video game.

.Sis

I've been closely watching this game too. I'm a bit concerned on the amount of gameply though. The entire game is just comprised of a few loss boss fights.

But the atmosphere is so great it looks like the kind of game you'll want to just run around in and get lost.

Part of the magic in ICO was just panning the camera around and surveying the breathtaking landscape.

this looks like it'll be like that but to a greater extent.

RE4 already got close to HDR.

The first ICO had amazing lighting. 4 years ago. Whether it was "close to HDR" or not i'm not sure, but it sure had some of the best lighting in a game for quite some time. Plus soft shadows (and self-shadowing characters and objects) which was a bitch to try on any other platform for quite some time.

looks sweet, cant wait to play it.

After playing GoW + ICO, and looking at screens of this...
kinda makes you wonder what these first party devs will be able to do with the next gen stuff.

Not really since I'm just talking about one specific level in RE4. The rest of RE4 doesn't have any similarities to HDR. ;)
But i'm talking about the HDR "look", that already exists in MGS and ICO... Bloom effects. In MGS they are pretty good actually.

The RE4 level I'm talking about has bloom effects too eg the lava level. Oh btw MGS doesn't use bloom effects. It's more of a blur effect. ;)

some cutscenes have them even more, but i cant find them...

Just got finished watching the IGN Masterbit video and can't see why this game is garnering such praise. I've seen a bunch of gameplay videos and it is the same thing in every one, the two Colossus fights I've seen were even the same gameplay wise. This game screams style over substance, and there certainly is a lot of style, will there be anything other than riding the horse to the next Colossus battle?

That was actually my question too. They said fidning the colossus might take up to half an hour, but does that mean running around on a horse for half an hour? Cause that will get mightily boring after a while.
Maybe there's stuff to do to actually find them, puzzles, clues... no idea... But it IS a risky decision.

Anyone played Stretch Panic by Treasure? A first gen PS2 game. It was basically the same principle, the game was basically fucused on the very few boss battles, which were great and very fun, absolutely bonkers, but it did finish very quickly and got boring shortly after.
