August/September would be earlier than I thought. I'll be happy if it gets released this year.
Ars guy confirms slim PS3..but says not until August/September.
This guy has a near bulletproof record with rumors so..
Size hasn't been an issue for me (that's what she said... ZING! ) It's a pretty standard sized HT component, maybe a little taller (when laying horizontal). I'm more interested in the lower power consumption and noise over my launch unit, which uses almost 200watts playing movies or games and can get pretty noisy in the summer.Yeah this is pretty cool. I owned a PS3 (about to sell though) and really thought it was too big. I might pick up one of these slim's.
I really think we're likely to see it at 299 as well. To justify their high shipment forecast. Probably major cost cutting in the device. A 299 PS3 slim with a 120GB HDD, quite compelling. I think MS will have to react.
Common sense incoming. No slim until next fall at the earliest it's all bullcrap. No pricedrop because it would mean Sony eating another mammoth loss. Sony with the situations the way they are are in no way inclined to take a big loss to boost sales. EXACTLY the opposite to be exact. If the PS3 doesnt sell there still wont be a pricedrop. The ps3 will die.
Yes, having sold over 20 million units at the current high price, favourably comparable to XB and GC last gen, Sony will now just throw in the towel and give up on the platform, leaving a few years of no market presence until next-gen.Common sense incoming. The whole point of a slim is to reduce costs to either increase profits or allow a price drop. Saying they won't introduce it in light of the current evidence, instead keeping the same expensive unit with the same expensive price, is a remarkable take on the notion of 'common sense' IMO
