Rumor: Slim PS3 on the way?

Again though, this isn't a true slim model. This is a Fat-reduced model; the 'semi-skimmed' PS3 version, not the 'skimmed' version. If PS1 and PS2 had launched at $600 and cost as much to make as PS3 does, I bet you'd have seen a smaller interrim model there too!

I desperately need a slim PS3. My EU launch PS3 is becoming annoyingly noisy, now with the fan working away at its loudest mode when in BRD playback mode which is a huge annoyance and distraction while watching movies. I tried dusting the thing, but fear the only way to get it to quiet down is to disassemble it and clean it from the inside, which probably won't happen anytime soon since I'm a bit busy and lazy at the same time.

If Sony launches a slim PS3 anytime within the next few months - I'd buy one in an instance. Even at the current price.

Strictly speaking the PS2 did launch at $600, at least in Europe.

I was actually going ot make a thread on this. I've been noticing the same exact issue on my PS3. I mainly use it for BR playback and it's getting very noisy to the point that I can easily hear it during quiet passages. I was wondering if there's a way to clean it but you're saying that you have to disassemble the whole thing? Are there any instructions to doing this without bricking the unit?

Lol if true.

The fake picture and fake cease and desist don't necessarily mean there's no PS3 Slim in development though (obviously), especially considering the Ars article on the subject from a so far very reliable source.

Yes but the certificate seems really a fake...

Ahh, to make money. What other reason to go to an elobrate hoax. Dunno how eBay would have taken to it though.

Of course, this could be a triple hoax whammy, with Sony faking the fakers to discredit the PS3Slim and discourage interest ;)

I don't know. I have read about fake rice, fake milk powder, fake egg, doped hotpot soup base, etc. in China. It's a fun place but definitely the land of many opportunities right now.

Some media sites claimed that the new PSP and PS3 h/w are real. Perhaps they are parallel development. So far, all we know is a inFamous bundle somewhere.

The whole 'fake' thing seems to hinge on them receiving the C&D from 'sexybutterfly'. It'd be nice to have engadget or other blogs corroborate this information.

Also, the 'reason to reveal this' is awfully fishy. 'We would have gotten away with it if not for you meddling kids and your no-name blog!'

If it is a hoax, it's the best ever! The packaging was so well made, to do that can't be cheap or easy. The cost to make one-off prototypes is pretty high. I'd like to know how they did it if they did. As a plan though, it is plausible. But yes, why come clean? Some sucker would have fallen for it.

And strictly speaking the PS3 launched at a significantly higher price than that in Europe. Here in Sweden it was at about US$1000 at time of launch.

Are you trying to tell us that the PS2 launch price was about 10000 kronor? besides using foreign currency in your home market goods is misleading.

Nothing even tells us the pictures and the letter is from the same source.

Did anyone actually read the link?
How did they made it ?

Both of them work in Chinese factories and used their infrastructures to have the "PS3 factory like" pictures, and used the tools of the factories to build the fake PS3.
By the way, they told us the hardest thing to do was to introduce a camera and take the pictures into the factory without being caught.

Then they made a motherboard on the basis of an old Atari console, and managed to make it work on a TV with RCA cables. So this was just a PS3 that could play old fashioned Atari games. Total cost : about 280$.
Huh? I call the fake story fake.

I am not saying anything about the PS2, but I think it supports Shiftys theory that the PS3 has room for several major cost reductions compared to the PS2.

My launch PS2 cost me about 4200 SEK in comparison to my launch PS3 which cost me about 6200 SEK

Okay. If PS2 had cost $800 to make and launched at $600, you'd have seen cost cutting measures in the form of a shrunk version much earlier :p
The whole of Sony is hurting. If you think they're willing to take another $1billion+ hit you're truly mad. Unless you think Sony have a magic wand?. These things happen and investors will start to get very jittery. Sony laid out there intentions last May in saying marketshare is not important.
Creating there own niche for PS3 is the name of the game now this gen.
