Resident Evil 5

New RE5 viral trailer Claire in HD.

The gameplay snippets starting around 1:08 look quite amazing. Often the exploding head tentacles look almost CG like (can see this if you freeze it around the 1:24 mark).

The demo was painful to play (controls + camera), I think it's going to hurt sales in the end.

Indeed, in regards to the controls. But as it pertains to sales, that didn't seem to effect 4. Do you think the market is different now? Perhaps expectations have changed?

I have been saying that going on two+ years now, to me, no one else has a more complete portfolio with retail and/or download on every platform but I do wish Zack and Wiki had debuted better on Wii.
I just wish I could buy Z+W. I intended to get it as a birthday present for a friend, but nowhere was selling it during April last year :(

Playing the PS3 demo remind me why I didn't like RE4 so much as many other people do. I didn't like the RE4 controls much at the time. This same control scheme actually feel worse now than when I played RE4, most likely because I now have plenty of experience with third-person shooters which have easier controls. I guess RE4 was my first contact with TPS.

I believe if a new franchise like Dead Space adopted a control scheme like this (assuming enemies are adjusted to suit this somewhat crippled controls), it would be treated more harshly both in reviews and sales. Since this game is RE5, a lot more people would be willing to make an effort in adapting themselves to the game.

Having said that, playing co-op with a friend was fun. Talking, yelling and having a laugh while playing can effectively distract my mind from any complaints I may have with the game. I really like co-op.

It felt great with the L1+R1 controls !
Though I am a fan of RE4 and loved it, but the decision to swap aiming to Left stick is the most awkward decision I guess. I chose to play with RE4 controls, since I am pretty comfortable with them having played RE4 couple of time, but they changed aiming to Left stick which is completely odd :???: !
Then I played with the Shooter controls and the aiming speed set to fastest, and it was Fun again !
I must say the AI for SHeva is pretty good when playing SP. She took care of herself and gelped me out quite some times.

The Assembly Area is more open and has more options than the Shantry town and , so, felt better among the two !

So, will Digital Foundry now do a comparison of the PS3 and Xbox 360 demo with proper HDMI captures? ;)

Still without HDCP decryption here, I'm afraid. Client needed one of my boxes, back-up box died horribly. Will be a few days but I'm sure I'll do it, but I'm also going to do some 1080p60 Crysis vids for playback on PS3 using GTX295 so my 'free' time is going to be limited!

Thanks for your reply ;). I don't mind if you give the Crysis 1080p60 videos the priority, if you know what i mean ;):D:p. I'd more like to see those ;).

It's interesting, playing the demo again I would agree that the controls are bad. Oddly though I didn't really notice the first time playing it, I kind of automatically expected poor controls on a Resident Evil game so I just rolled with it.

360 demo has better frame rate, it's easy to spot. Just run both side by side, load the first level and pan the camera around. It stutters a bit on the PS3. Likewise you can feel it fairly easily when running around, it's not as smooth on PS3.

Demo was very disappointing imo.

If you want to kill Zombies with your mates you're better off with Left For Dead, if you wanna experience a great horror game that doesn't rely on crappy controls to create tension you better stick with Dead Space. If you play for graphics/presentation as well as tight controls just wait for Killzone2 or play Gears2.

I didn't think the demo was bad, but it came off as a little soulless: A sort of re-skinned RE4 minus Mikami's perfectionism, minus the unique identity that once made the series famous, and untouched by what little evolution the genre (well, Dead Space at least) has went though since RE4 - it hardly works as a horror game anymore, and it's sorely lacking as a straight up action game as well. I wouldn't call it a failure, but uninspired describes it very well.

I think the gameplay just has a very dated feel to it. (heck, I wasn't even all that impressed with the visuals outside of the cut-scenes. Hopefully Capcom can at least do something about the framerate before the game ships as. I thought it was rather distracting)

Why? Some people like me actually enjoyed the RE5 demo. If I wanted to simply kill zombies Dead Rising does the job.

if you wanna experience a great horror game that doesn't rely on crappy controls to create tension you better stick with Dead Space.

Why? Dead Space has average graphics and for some people it just doesn't do it for them. There's plenty of tension in RE5 and I'm practically a pro at the controls.

If you play for graphics/presentation as well as tight controls just wait for Killzone2 or play Gears2.

Why? They're different types of games. RE5 is not a war game. It's a game about mobs of infected living people trying to kill you.

I think you're missing the point of the game. RE5 targets the middle ground just fine. It's not a straight war shooter and it's not survival horror scary, it's in its own class as was RE4. Yes it's more of the same with better graphics just like any other sequels...that was the goal. The goal wasn't to change it up and introduce something totally fresh. That will likely be saved for RE6.

heck, I wasn't even all that impressed with the visuals outside of the cut-scenes.

Anyone who isn't impressed with RE5's graphics needs to take a look at Dead Space and do a reality check.

Looks like GRAW with zombies to me, it's clean but a bit to sterile. What is with the multi-national zombies? Are they not in Africa? Was the UN infected nearby?

I did a third play through, I can't get over the goofy controls. Maybe with a real co-op partner it will be more fun.

GRAW's enviornments arent as detailed polygon/texture wise. Animation is better in RE5 too. Then there's the water/smoke/particle/fire effects that RE5 pulls off better than almost all console games to date. I played GRAW X360 demo and graphically it doesn't compare at all. Check out some of the videos of the other levels in RE5 like the "boat ride" and "abandoned city" on youtube or gametrailers, they look amazing.
