l-b : why are you prolonging this? Just walk away and let the mods deal with this one. Joe can argue all he wants but if no-one cares to listen (like me adding him to my ignore list) he'll eventually give up.

lol kiddo....is that term becoming popular? Feels like I should have a cigar in my mouth and a tommy gun in my hand.

I think its a good port for the PS2. This is the PS2 where talking about and getting a port near to the original game (on a different console) is very cool. I doubt passive Resident Evil gamers will even notice the effects being taken out.

Yes it IS a shame, But you also have to understand that for a studio like Capcom (which have never had a reputation for pushing the envelope technically), trying to replicate all the very cool effect from the GC version over to PS2 would require a LOT of code rewriting, on top of all the re-writing they already have to do.
So maybe for you the RE4 port was a lousy job, for other people it isn't.
Some people are just thankful that it actually doesn't look WORSE than it does, because PS2 got much worse ports in the past!
The pdf you keep linking to is a very specialised study of what can be done with the PS2 architecture, and obviously all those neat things will be exploited by first party teams (like the ones that did GOW which you mentioned) because they only have to worry about the PS2 version.
A place like Capcom has too many things to worry about, with different consoles and lots of different games, to be looking at VERY highly optimised PS2 code.
You can say they're lazy, fine it's your opinion, but economically speaking, i guess everything has its limits.

Do you think that RE4 would sell more if it looked EXACTLY the same as the GC version?

RE4 will sell a lot whatever happens, they know this and allocated a budget for the conversion, knowing that they could make it look like total crap and still sell hundreds of thousands of copies. Maybe millions.

Spending more money or time for some fancy effects wouldn't make sales better, and for Capcom it would be a waste of resources.

hehe, yea. but im so sick of people's negativity. it's nice to see positive efforts. btw, does this mean you lied about what you said earlier about re4 not looking as good as gow?
