PSM3's PS3 review with pics and a video of the startup screen

wrong wrong?

usb to joystick, composite , powerc , ethernet , and something cable left of the 6xAx

that was stealth troll to the missing component cable isnt it ;)

lol, I wasn't trying to be stealthy in the least. Boo on Sony for not providing HD cables!

Much more interesting are the five discs ... Two of them are Motorstorm, one of them Motorstorm: Coyote, and the other Motorstorm: Rain. Interesting?

Wierd, is that an HDMI to Composite cable? Must mean they've got some sort of D/A converter in the plug then? Sorta like the first release of the GC and the component cable adapter.

Or is the output a multiout that just really looks like an hdmi port?

Edit:
Just answered my own question, the label above the port says AV MULTI OUT.

Not sure what the front left cable is. Here are a few other shots of it.

Could be an adapter for PS2 controller ports or memory cards. This isn't a retail package so they may have thrown in a few extras.

It could well be the UK power cable too! We don't use silly plugs here.

Wait... That's an UK plug... Is that an UK PS3? What's it doing there? In October? Shouldn't there be NO UK PS3s till march? Or does the Royal Family get one, cause they can?

This is discrimination that's what it is. It's because i'm Italian. It's because my skin is darker isn't it. I KNEW it.

BAD SONY.

Afraid so: http://ps3media.ign.com/ps3/image/article/741/741368/playstation-3-unwrapped-20061024090304995.jpg

I can't tell if there are two though (note the positioning of the items): http://uk.media.ps3.ign.com/articles/741/741368/img_4017720.html

Two power leads? Never seen that before. I guess a UK lwead was added to a US box, and that won't be standard.

What do we think of the shut-down time? What's it doing that prevents you interrupting it? The commentary says an HDD parking procedure, but that's obviously not the case. What would happen if the power is interrupted (switch off at the wall) instead of shutting down the machine properly? Will we get a rude message next time we start? - 'you didn't shut me down properly. I'm now going to spend half an hour in self diagnostics and file checking.' Coz when a game crashes won't a hard reset sometimes be necessary? Then again, maybe not. The Amiga was almost always able to manage a soft reset from keyboard input. The power switch could be hard-wired to reset no matter what the rest of the system state is.

One remote possibility is that it can hibernate like the PSP. That would be very cool, but also very unlikely.

Anyway, both the hardware and software look very sleek in these videos.

Saving the system state to HDD, so on next power on you can revert to exactly where you were? That'd be a very cool feature IMO, if you could stop when you wanted to in a game without having to wait to find a frustratingly rare save point, and pick up from there.

Certainly it's shiny!

Having just watched the 3rd vid, there's a surprising number of setup options! Keyboard support is obviously strong given settings for key repeat speed, and similarly there's mouse speed options and a 'test camera' function - peripherals supported from the get go.

Then at the top we have System update, obviously enough, and then sharing the same icon at the bottom of the list, Install Package File. Is that there just for Linux? Or will there be other package files? Perhaps custom Sony-made mods like visualizers? Or other OSes (AmigaDOS for PS3!)? Definitely curious about that one.

It's very apparent this isn't just a games console. I know there were many a sceptic about Sony's promises, but so far they seem set to deliver.
