The problem is that the X360 core is $299... and it does sell almost as well now as the PS2 which costs $129 or so?
Yes but what is the ratio of the core to the premium? I think MS once said the Core is around 10-15% of the total 360 count.

Laa-Yosh you're throwing me off... was that last post a question or a statement?
You're freaking me out man - you're too worked up about these shipment/sales figures.
that goal isn't in danger, it's unreachable , they sold 3,4M in US , cut that number in half and you'll get EU sales (and that's very generous) add Japan and other minor countries and you're halfway to their target.
My instinct says that the Nov' sales for the PS2 are driven in large part by Guitar Hero 2 which is drawing in casuals, as you say.
The exact opposite - I don't even know how much the PS2 costs
As for PS2, it's $129 right now.
For the millionth time, NPD does not report total sales, they are around 80%.
Assume 1million sold in Dec, that.s 4.4, extrapolate to full numbers that's 5.5 + EU = 8.25
Add Canada, JPN, and AUS together, you're in the neighborhood of 9million sold through. If retailers have 1million units in stock worldwide, MS will have made their goal.
I dunno, it'll be close that's for sure. Depends if EU is really 40-50% of the US sales.
could have sworn I'd seen some at Costco for $99?
I wouldn't be surprised. I've got to get to Costco more often than I do now that I think about it...
Which next gen console will be the first to surpass the PS2? and by when?

I don't think we can even venture a guess on this at this point.
Costcos do not sell consoles by themselves, always in a bundle so I am pretty sure a 99 or 129 PS2 is not right.
Ok work it out with Tap In, I don't want to be stuck in a crossfire.
