[PS3] Killzone 2

So, who bought the new mappack?

I got it last night and played a few games. There's a completely new level (not sure if it's from KZ1) which is very complex and quite a lot of fun to battle it out. Lots of corridors, but also open areas. Didn't find the bolt gun yet in that level, but that will come when I spend more time with it.

The other level is very similar to Pyrus and is from the story-mode (one of the first levels where you fight against snipers). Looks like a good level (more narrow and longish) and features the flame-thrower which is just wicked... :)

Funny that new bundle, I just bought the two older packs like a week ago :) Ohh well, I guess -i'll buy the new also then.

Played for hour and a half today ! The new maps were filled with elite players(all generals) so I played the original maps, which , surprisingly , are still so much fun :D ! The newer maps have too many open areas, I guess, dunno haven't played much.

Levelled up to be a captain today. Hadn't played for 3 and a half months, I guess, stuck to NOOB matches, but had a lot of fun with turrets today. Usually I am pathetic with the shotgun, but today, in one match, I scored a lot in Helghan Industries and Thsaris Depot. Those two maps are really fun to play. Have a lot places to flank the enemy in Thsaris Depot. I found that out today for the first time.

Congrats on your missile unlock for Captain ^_^

All the KZ2 maps have many nooks and crannies for ambushing and flanking people. The different sections are intricately connected. If you dug-in in one area, you may find yourself flanked from behind by the enemy sooner or later. I am most impressed by Pyrrhus Rise. I didn't figure out the vertical map until 8-10 hours later. At first, I didn't understand the map and were pretty disappointed/frustrated by it because the play area seemed very small. In fact, I only have a vague idea of the routes in that map.

Even a guide like this: http://boardsus.playstation.com/playstation/board/message?board.id=killzone2&thread.id=283402

...is insufficient to express the verticality of the map (coz you only see the 2D view here).

Hmmmm.......will chk out theguide. Pesonally, I don't like pyrhus rise, as the fights happen in open areas, and given the very limited FOV of KZ2 , the situational awareness is pretty low for open areas. Thsaris and Helghan industries are smaller maps, and easy to get ur head around. Still fhaven't figured out Salamun market and blood gratch, other than the obvious chokepoints and paths.

Played a match in Southern Hills , everything seems to happen in the open middleground. Had fun, and yes its a wonder that such an awesomely beautiful and busy map runs so smoothly in MP. Its a wonder tha t other games can't even match this quality in Campaign. Real hard work by Guerilla !

There are plenty of cover in PR. :)

It's a sniper heaven because of high elevation and open view, but there are enough path ways to different segments that you can pretty much avoid sniper contact for most or the entire game.

My PR game usually consists of fighting behind cover (using the default rifle), or up at the highest level to sweep people off the high ground. But I needed to figure my way up to the top first. And there are several ways to get there.

Yap, Southern Hill is my most played map. The nuke is interesting because it changes the game dynamics in "Search and Destroy". The blast also forces people into the same room quickly. CQC and gun-orgy ensue. ^_^

I mean BEACH HEAD not southern hills !

Have mixed feelings about Beach Head. It's a rather realistic (read: chaotic) beach landing scenario. Reminds me of the "Saving Private Ryan" mess on the beach.

Sometimes to get away from the carnage, I'd climb the gun tower ladder and pick people off from the platform. It's easy to miss the gun tower at first.

You are talking about Arctower landings ! Tats from KZ2 itself, where we blow up the arc tower, not from KZ1 !

The ArcTower level is the opposite of Southern Hill. The latter is open and centralized. The former is an extensive network of corridors (except for the upper levels). I fought one guy with the bolt gun. It doesn't seem like an accurate weapon coz he took a long time to kill me wieldiing a pistol.

Eh, what don't you like about Southern Hills ? The choke points in the middle ?

I think the Arctower level has (much) more depth than other maps, but it's biased against the attacker for "Search & Destroy". It appears easier to defend than attack because of the narrow exits. It's also easy to camp on the Tactician's spawn points in the corridors -- from personal experience.

I think it'd be a great map for "Search and Retrieve". "Body count" should work well too since I cross-pathed with the enemy so many times last night, but at different angle, position and elevation.

EDIT: Still trying to explore the other map "Suljeva Cliffside" but a large part was inaccessible because the enemy was too strong

I quite like southern hill. The bomb that explodes every 5 minutes gives it a unique element to the map and there's plenty for all. It's pretty difficult to get of your camp though when the opposing team holds all the tactical advantages and uses the heavy artilery from the center of the level from far.

I thought this was interesting. Apparently, there's a difference between Visari's eye color from the opening to the ending. Never noticed it myself. A plot point for Killzone 3? A simple mistake, and just a break in continuity? Perhaps both? Originally a mistake but a great a loophole for GG to bring back Visari?

Warning, if you haven't beat KZ2 yet, the link contains game-ending spoilers.

Was good fun last night. 3 of us put up a good fight for a few rounds. We may have lost, but there were extremely close and could have gone either way. I'm still a bit rusty from not playing for nearly a month now (and I had a few games of CoD:WaW which didn't help), but playing it yesterday reminded me again what a great fun multiplayer game KillZone2 is.

Can't wait for the next few matches. There's always room to join if anyones interested. No skill level required.

Just join the B3d PS3-XMB chatroom and we can coordinate things from there!
