Take modern sports games for example, which are essentially all running "without physics" in the same way GodOfWar 3 is.
 
Well, lack of self shadowing, limited environment to showcase as getting a stable build together is difficult at this time. GOW is all about flamboyance and grandeur and what they are showing right now doesn't seem to be what they would want to show GOWIII as , I presume. I guess they are limited by what they can show right now.
 
I'm sure at some point they would want to show off the moving Titan level(s). And may be the AI as commanded by the Centaurs.
 
The gameplay looks really good. The combos to rip off parts/kill is really IMO what makes this game shine.
 
Just watched the IGN HD gameplay and HOLY SH*T did that look amazing! The epic scale, the Titan, the lighting and the crazy amount of detail on Kratos simply burst out gorgeousness. The fire horses and the particle trial..just wow! Sometimes the game really did look like CG to me. But the brutal gameplay and the cinematic moves are the BEST by far.
Really wish to see the gameplay of how Kratos scale the Titans from that Epic trailer though.
 
They're certainly making a lot of progress since the first images. I guess they have trouble fitting the previous games' stylized looks to more advanced shading and lighting techniques... needs time and tweaking.

I agree, I think they've more or less nailed the look of Kratos at least. Check out the mapping on his face, that's gotta be some kind of advanced parallax map or a displacement map goin on there.

Can't really do parallax mapping on characters AFAIK; and definitely no displacement by the looks of it. Just some high res normal maps on a high poly model.
