PS3 firmwares 2.0 and 2.10

They should allow us to run an app in the background by default. I would run the video app with my favorite trailer/movie. This will put the wallpaper feature to shame.

Wow awesome themes. The MGS4 theme though doesnt want to load the backround. Any ideas?

I tried it before but it didnt play them.

To my knowledge you could easily do transcoding on TVersity before, ie the software transcoded in real-time from whatever codecs to something that PS3 could work with.

I think the transcoding was spotty in the past. e.g., one cannot fast forward or rewind transcoded files reliably (if at all), some files appear as unrecognized even though the DLNA server was supposed to convert it, or they may time out during playback. It seems that they have fixed these issues in 2.0.

EDIT: According to http://www.watch.impress.co.jp/game/docs/20071112/ggl16.htm, we may be able to use chat via RemotePlay directly now ? (like Remote webcam).

Well I wasnt veryt familiar with TVersity. When I had the older version I only made my PS3 find the media server and then tried to play the files and it failed. Was there something I should have done to do transcoding or was it automatic?

It works fine now :)

It should be automatic. I believe Tversity has very sparse settings. Now I am trying to figure out how to upgrade the embedded Tversity in Buffalo's "Terrastation Live" NAS box. Brought one home for experiments.

The themed backgrounds are a nice addition, I'm using those air paint icons with the original background in white. I really like how the PS3 is shaping up, so many improvements in just one year. It's aesthetics and presentation value is better than any other console before. It just needs some AAA titles under it's belt.

Argh... you're right. Twonky runs on the TeraStation, while Tversity runs on my Mac (running Windows VM). >_<

Same here, but how do you specify the color ? I can set it to original background and that's it (It's blue and hasn't changed color yet).

hmm my ps3 is acting a bit strange,, when i turn it off it shuts down for 30 seconds or so and then boots up again, plays half the intro sound/music and sits for about 1 minute, Then comes the beeps and it shuts down again ?..

Got to be something with the remoteplay option.

I had the same problem. Turn off the ability to switch on and off your console through your PSP. Update your PSP to the latest firmware and turn the remote play on. It wont do it again.

Why yes... if Sony implement the "Run a designated app in the background by default" thinggie, then not only can they run LBP video in XMB. As a big bonus, they can also modify the Information Board to blend news article into the background. :devilish:

I'll be screamed at for saying this, but I'd rather they keep the reserved Memory for the OS and build in even more cool features into the XMB...

Well... I have similar thoughts until I realize that we could still dream about both (Reduce memory usage a little bit more and yet still have the cool feature(s)) :devilish:

But if given a choice, I may opt for additional features like auto video/photo capture for all titles, etc.
