PS3 firmwares 2.0 and 2.10

Holy sh*t ! WTH is wrong with Sony for leaving out this item in their release note ?

Are we playing an extension of Uncharted ? Do we need to hunt for treasure inside every firmware ? Why aren't things packaged properly and disseminated ? Or in the first place, are they interested in selling Playstation or games ?

May be not... me thinks. :)

What do you think guys, will they enable one day PS2 games over remote play? Does PS2 emulation already takes hevy tall on the hardware, will there be enough resources for compressing video and sening it over net?

Well you can already play Lair via remote play...so I don't see why not.

Anyone find a good streamer for the Mac?

Something which could stream iTunes and iPhoto libraries to the PS3?

Yeah, I heard the same. My guess is we will have to wait for their movie service ;-)

I use TwonkyVision on my MacBook Pro and Buffalo Live NAS, plus Tversity on Windows. iTunes DRMed songs are out of luck naturally.

Happy now? ;)

We should probably have a fixed Firmware thread rather than a new thread every firmware with the occasional swap over, seeing as upgrades quite frequent.

Better. Just didnt make sense, to have a 2.01, and 2.10 themed thread, with the title 2.0. Its somewhat hard to find where one starts, and the other ends, but its ok.

I've heard rumblings that DivX streaming over the network isn't supported...can anyone confirm?

Just tried it, streamed just fine for me. Ive already read that someone tried a 2.92gig file, and it worked. I dont have any that big, so I cant try.

TwonkyVision is Mac software and it works with an NAS?

I tried the UnPnP features of my LaCie Etherdisk NAS and it worked partly.

EyeConnect on 30-day free trial copied some files including photos from my iPhoto library but wasn't bulletproof.

Ultimately, maybe AppleTV will be beefed up to support 1080p output and that may be the better way to go.

Wow. This update is amazing. I made a quick video of me playing FFVII on my PSP. So incredible that we dont have to pay for PS1 games (for PSP) anymore from the PSN Store. This and profile 1.1 on the same day. :D

Well, that sucks. I was hoping it'd stream .avi/.divx files like the 360 just using WMP, but it doesn't ("data unsupported"). Guess I'll stick to the 360 for my media stuff. The exact same files (encoded in DivX 5) worked fine streaming on the 360.

If fallguy can do it, I wouldn't be surprised if it's a DLNA server issue again. Wait for a Tversity update.

I don't think the video files are streamed in the RTSP sense. But since Playstation Home allows users to share media, exchanging video files over the net should be a pre-requisite.

That's really neat. My only issue with RemotePlay is I have a Japan PSP. So O is ok and X is cancel; opposite to US. I got confused all the time when trying to change settings to launch a program over Remote Play.

I use WMP11, and stream just fine.

I dont use any 3rd party programs at all.

It runs on *nix. Buffalo Live bundles one (together with a iTunes server)
I like Tversity better though.

Went to the Twonkyvision site. They say the Twonkymedia software is preinstalled on the LaCie NAS that I already have.

When UnPnP was first enabled on the PS3, I tried it and it didn't work that flawlessly.

Maybe the new firmware updates are better.

What containers/codecs?

I've tried a dozen different files, DivX 6, DivX 5, and XViD all included and none would stream using WMP11 on Vista and they all worked fine on the 360.

* When video files are organized into folders, they will stop displaying the animated icon. Instead only the first frame is shown. Please fix this.

In 2.1, the movie thumbnails will continue to animate even when filed in folders/albums.

I prefer to use TVersity to serve files from the NAS. It is more robust and supports fast forward + rewind.

Try checking the FourCC of some of the files you have and change the code to DIVX using this or this FourCC changer.

Streaming from WMP11/Vista 64 here with no major issues though the odd one or two videos won't play even though they are identical in encoding settings to videos that do play which is strange.
