PS3 firmwares 2.0 and 2.10

Cool, my wife actually likes these things. ;)

Xvid seems to work, by early reports. Also, the PSP got a net radio player (in all regions), which I'm hoping we'll see in the PS3 as well, as that has been a popular feature for us in the past.

That looks great.

I'd like to see more of them. It always made me a touch disappointed that the Saturn had this "cool" 3d spaceship and the PSX had naf all.

Time for Sony to make up for years of disappointment ;)

If you were lucky enough to have the Demo1 disk you had a very good visualization in that dik ;)

I was lucky

edit: The firmware is not available to download online at the official site yet. Darn

Just tested downloading an xvid based video from a random website (via PS3's browser) to see if it's possible to stream it. It's not. Oh well. :(

It's pretty nice I like the smooth transition from pressing play on screen to actually displaying on the TV, the Xbox seems to love sync briefly when doing the same (both are on HDMI).

Most basic XviD/DivX stuff plays fine but I did run the DivX test CD to see just how far it goes and HD XviD/DivX is not supported as is XviD with GMC, packed bit-stream and also anything with subtitles refuses to play (Xbox plays all of those minus displaying the actual subtitles).

Has anyone else gotten similar results ?

Edit: Some further testing shows some DivX HD videos do play but XviD HD ones do not, bit of a mixed bag generally, I think if it's not authored by the DivX software then it might not play.

I still have that disk, didn't even know there was a visualisation thing on there

I will have to try it out tonight. Still, having to load it up rather than it being there in the firmware.

You do and you missed the visualiation??

Yep had to load it. But looked much more interesting than the Saturn's. It is basically one that has various changes. Very very very nice for its time. 3D face models, objects, rings, dublication of image etc. All resonating with the audio ;)

The earth visualizer is amazing, definetely try it out. Press the [] button to switch and rotate between the visualizers, skip to the next track to have the earth visualizer switch to a different camera.

There are three visualisers total.

The planet one has a few different planets which can be changed by skipping the song i think.

I like that. I find the planet one to be more in line of a screensaver and not neccesarily a visualizer. Anyone have any links to what the other visualizers are? I love the one on the 360, and it's up quite often!

I am going to be purchasing another PS3 in the next couple of weeks.
