PS3 firmwares 2.0 and 2.10

I'm starting to use XMB Folders to organize my HDD content.
The "Group by Album" feature essentially allow users to specify how we want to organize the media into different folders (only 1 level though).

For games, I lumped them into "Demo", "Playstation Eye", and "PSN".

For videos, I use "EyeCreate" and "Trailers" as album names. Good thing is EyeCreate will auto-fill the "Album" field, so I don't have to tag them. But I have to manually tag all the PSN videos. The other videos are on my DLNA server, which already has an established folder structure.

For photos, almost everything is on DLNA. Local photos can be grouped automatically into "EyeCreate" and "Unknown".

For music, everything is on DLNA (since PS3 can't create any).

======
It would be good if Sony can implement the following enhancements for future XMB revisions:

* For all PSN content, fill in the "Album" field with a default value. This saves the user time in typing the Album name themselves. Standard keywords like "Trailer", "Demo" may suffice.

* When video files are organized into folders, they will stop displaying the animated icon. Instead only the first frame is shown. Please fix this.

* Allow PS3 to save media files to a DLNA server (e.g., from EyeCreate, Resistance snapshots). Right now, it always saves the media locally.

* DLNA video files cannot generate animated icon. Would be great if this can be added.

I noticed a bug with this option, that I want you to be careful of. I think I lost my album information when I changed the theme. Has anyone else noticed this?

I tried changing themes 2-3 times. It does not clear the meta info (My folder structure is still intact).

I think the theme settings in my main account was reset the first time I set theme on a secondary account. Subsequent theme changing was fine. It may be the same bug you encountered ?

That could certainly be it. Thanks for sharing!

Something I ve noticed today.

You can actually sort your game and video files however you like. Press triangle on a file, select information and add the category in "Album" you want to set. This will automatically create folders and each file will end up in the category you have set in "album". :)

That's what I meant here, Nesh ^_^

Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo...why Sony, why?

You know what, now that I think about it, I'm really pissed off (no longer sad ;)) that Sony took out DSD->DTS. That was a great feature! I mean why put it in there in the first place (for like what, less than a week)? Just to tease? :devilish:

One question I hope someone can answer.

I ve noticed that my PS3 doesnt dispay my USB HDD. It used to find it but not now. I dont know if its related to the new firmware. It does find though my USB mem stick.

Anyone know shy or can help me on how to make it show my HDD?

Is the usb hdd still in fat32 format? Could be that you or someone else has formatted it to ntfs to "easily" erase all information in there.

Eklund added that firmware should be released for the PS3 this month that would upgrade the console to fully playback picture-in-picture interactivity, another type of high-def bonus feature that is popular in HD DVD titles but not yet available with Blu-ray titles due to few compatible players.

Looks like we have one more update before new year. Profile 1.1 confirmed for 2.02

A 0.01 to add a major new bluray profile support? And a 2.0 version to add themes to the dashboard? Seriously?

Wow. :)

What about Profile 2?

Any plans to add support for that?

It's in the same article I posted.

Studio executive panelists as well as manufacturers speaking at the conference acknowledged the current absence of BD-Live players. Yet, Eklund said Sony and other studios anticipate that the PlayStation 3 will soon become one such player, likely through firmware updates, as the console already allows users to download game-related content.

I believe web stuff is Profile 2.0 and picture in picture stuff is Profile 1.1
