Project Gotham Racing 3 Designer Diary #1 (new screens!)

Please tell me you didn't seriously just try to compare a photograph of a game running on a TV screen with a frame buffer screenshot. That would be, well, dumb.

indeed.

if you watch some of the videos where they pause gameplay and jump into the photo mode (which from the same beind the car angle looks identical to gameplay) where they can pan around the car and zoom in/out you get to see that the gameplay graphics are just as good as the "promo shots"

if you are going to try and compare, at least wait until you have good 720p direct feed shots of gameplay to compare with the supposed promo shot.

oh, and here's a nice new gameplay feed from xboxyde of las vegas http://www.xboxyde.com/news_2163_en.html

LOL at people who try to rain on all the pro-X360 games threads. It's getting ridiculous. Maybe posters who hate MS should stop posting in x360 threads. You don't see me posting in the MGS4 threads do you?

These console games are done with a TV like setup in mind (i.e. sitting 2-4 meters away from TV), and most of the time, we watch those in-game videos in our computer monitors that are just 30-50cm from us.. For example, I watched NBA 2K video(a high quality 720p video) a couple of weeks ago on my computer and the graphics/animation did not seem as beautiful as people who sees it on TV hyped. Last weekend, I connected my computer to my 46" DLP TV and watched it again. I did not believe my eyes as how it looked differently on my couch. Now, I truly understand what the guys actually talk about.

I decided to reserve all my judgements until I see them in kiosks or very HQ videos on my TV.
Woiuldn't you be viewing them very close on them kiosks too, about 50cm.

Seeing it on kiosks through analogue output + crappy LCD gives you free motion blur (aka ghosting)! ;)

i get choppy playback, what player do you use?

To me guys this is the best video that I've seen of this game. One other sticks out though. It's the on in NYC when the player looks to the side a views the NY skyline while driving.

The videos Love_In_Rio posted above has damage. The damage is very limited in scope but it does add a little something to the game. An arcade racer where your front folds in like an accordion wouldn't be very fun, but it does feel strange when watching something so realistic expecting serious damage and only ending up with a crumpled bumper and hood. A weird disconnect that takes you out of the game for a moment but it's something nessesary because car companies don't particularly like their cars getting destroyed in games.

PGR3 may be delayed a few weeks...

King Kong will go on sale with the console and according to Gaming Nexus, Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion and Project Gotham Racing 3 have been pushed back to the Dec. portion of the launch window.
