Sony are suggesting big plans for the event. Not really sure what they could do that hasn't already been predicted.

Only unannounced games...

They really just need to announce less than 5 real, huge AAA titles to be out this year and next and they'll have a good show. The rest can be lesser but just as valid games. A steady stream of good software in the next couple of years. They have solved the hardware problem, they really just need the software to go with it.

Please Sony don't be your usual unrealistic geeky self.

What they need now is FOCUS. PS4 is more succcessful than they could dream of, and it just needs games. Not things that will be unaccessible to the vast majority of the public (4k, VR and all that rubbish!).

Just. Give. Us. Games.

Power 8 is 22nm (SOI). Can't imagine the yields to be particularly good, but it's a pretty fat chip & whole other power level to begin with.

Otherwise, I'm not sure 22nm will be "affordable" just yet. Gotta wonder how the layout is supposed to be. The 45nm rendition already had a bit of wasted die space due to the I/O placement.

Other than a price drop & showing games, games, games. I'm not expecting much from MS. I do think we will see some paid exclusives(mainly timed) as that worked pretty good for MS last gen. I think you'll will also see mention of new UI/OS improvements for gaming use. Hopefully bringing back missing features on XB1 like demos. Adding new features like the original Family Sharing, pre-downloading of digital games. Hopefully they will fix the downloading times before you play. I also expect them to drop the app paywall requirement on at least XB1 to bring it inline with PS4.

Not sure what stuff they will show on the 360 side, but they need to drop retail price, but only if they are able to drop the cost to manufacture. The last console(Xbox 360 E) didn't do much to drop costs except get rid of the AV, optical & one USB port. Other than that it's the same motherboard & components as the Slim just with a new case. If they can get X360 down to $99 without Kinect & $200 with, then drop XB1 to $400 with Kinect. I think that should do them well until the holidays.

What I'm hoping to see is games that I care about & ones that will make want to upgrade to XB1. So I'm hoping to hear about Red Dead Redemption 2. Also would like to hear about Halo. Not so much about remixed versions of Halo. Already have them all(except Halo CE Anniversary). Something like ODST would be cool. I'm most interested in open-world co-op games. So far haven't heard of much that fits that bill, but I'm excited for Batman Arkham Knight but not enough to upgrade just yet. I still need to get Arkham Origins. ;)

If MS doesn't have any surprises at E3, it's going to be a rough year and sad time to be a Xbox fan. :(

32nm integration believe. :3

What they (MS) have said is we can expect big surprises, and I don't know if it is true but it looks like it will be one of the best E3 for Xbox family.

No different than any other year. Sony and Microsoft have already suggested exactly the same. 'Surprises' can only mean unannounced games.

Unless it's related to their projection or glasses tech.

What do you guys think we will see from Crytek?
Homefront 2 ?
Crysis sequel ?
Ryse 2?

How would those work as free2play titles though? I'd expect more MMO-like titles rather than singleplayer experiences.

June 2012:
""What this entails is that our future, all the new games that we're working on, as well new projects, new platforms and technologies, are designed around free-to-play and online, with the highest quality development.""

Obviously surprises mean unannounced games, that's what I want, and a lot of Xbox One owners.

Sorry but I prefer more and more games than a gadget that could end without real support, third party support.

:) I've decided against buying another 360 as long as this one still works. It would have to have special functionality for me to spend money on it instead of putting that money toward a XB1. However, I do want them to finally get to that magical price point. I think it would help their image & would help get XB1 to a lower price point.

I think pricing & some new features can be considered big surprises & not just unannounced games. I do agree they need to lean more to games though. I don't think announcing Illumiroom or Fortaleza is a good move right now. They need to salvage their image with price & games first before attempting hardware add-ons. They already have one hardware device they are having a hard time selling. Unless of course Illumiroom or Fortaleza require Kinect, then that could go a long ways to validating including Kinect with every console.

IMO it is too soon for announcing this kind of things.

How low can be the price for a good VR helmet? $150? $200?

OR (Dev Kit 2) is $350, even if they can go to $100 less, it will be $250.

That's why I want games and not a peripheral, maybe the next year. And for both, Sony needs games too, not a peripheral.

Microsft will shorten the "negative list"

The obvious stuff that is ok, but not amazing.

1: Change XBOX gold to only cover online gaming and keep the free games, and include XB1
2: Lower price on XB1 and Kinect 2 by $50 "Amazing Value" except not outside MS headquarters.
3: New games, Halo, Gears of War, the old guard and everything in 1080p
4: Beat the indy drum hard and loud.

Sony will do as expected and i have a theory that though they may do ok with games, and more talk about VR there simply isn't going to be anything "big".

Imho E3 is in Microsofts hands, it's theirs to lose.

Of course there is my crazy thing about Nintendo and Microsoft teaming up, Sony and Nintendo seems more natural, but the old scars are still fresh :)

I think lot of your points make sense but I expect that MS has not been resting on their laurels and will come to E3 with some big announcements. I do think that they will have not given up on the subscription model though and I think they will do something to try and make it more palatable like partnering with DirectTV for an IPTV service that requires GOLD to access. DLC VIP treatment will probably continue and some big ones like COD or BF will be announced as well as some titles which are 'XBOX exclusive' most will be on Playstation later.

WRT Sony, I am concerned about what is going on at the software studios, ND in particular seems to be struggling with the pressure of delivering the next installment of UC. I do think some of the other studios have been hiding announcements but I also think that games like Drive Club suggest there are some internal issues. I also think there is a chance Sony has a DRM moment with the PS NOW announcement. I think we could see very little in the way of details about price, titles and as a result lots of confusion and angry gamers.

I was also thinking of Morpheus as a PlayStation 4 peripheral until I saw the GDC introduction of the tech. Now I know that it's not, nor are Sony selling it [to devs] as such. It may have a fallback mode where it functions as an alternative to a TV or monitor but it's obvious that they want people writing software targeting the device.

But you're right, they still need software. For PS4 and for Morpheus. I'm guessing we'll see a lot more Morpheus stuff at E3.

I've taken a look at Wikipedia to get an idea of Sony's first party studios and had a think about what they could have:

*SCE Japan Studio – just finished with Knack, nothing new soon.

*Team Ico – hopefully The Last Guardian shown.

*Project Siren – no idea, but it's been a while since Gravity Rush.

*Polyphony Digital – I doubt Gran Turismo will be ready for PS4 yet.

*Naughty Dog – Uncharted remastered, The Last of Us remastered, possibly Uncharted 4.

*SCE Santa Monica Studio – God of War remastered, probably working on original game or sequel. I think it's been a while since their last game maybe something will be ready to show.

*Ready at Dawn - The Order 1886 shown in a lot of detail.

*SCE San Diego Studio – I have no idea.

*SCE Bend Studio – a new PSV game?

*Sucker Punch Productions – just finished Infamous Second Son, nothing new for a year or two.

*SCE London Studio – didn't they prepare the underwater Morpheus demo? Presumably they're working on that tech. Also the new camera.

*Evolution Studios – Driveclub release coming soon.

*Guerrilla Games – nothing new for a while since they just finished Killzone.

*Guerrilla Cambridge – maybe a PSV game in the works?

*Media Molecule – their new 'dream' IP shown in more detail.

This doesn't include second parties, so there's definitely something brewing with those too.

I'll take a look at Microsoft, but suspect it's not a fair comparison since they tend to pay for exclusivity.

Microsoft's first party studios, at least those I think maybe working on something:

*343 Industries – Halo 2 remastered, Halo 4. Probably only Halo 2 this year.

*Good Science Studio – some new Kinect game.

*Kids and Lifestyle Entertainment – more Kinect fitness updates.

*Leap Experience Pioneers – absolutely no idea.

*Team Dakota – Project Spark just finished, so nothing new except maybe updates.

*Turn 10 Studios – Forza just finished, so nothing new.

*Twisted Pixel Games – LocoCycle done, nothing new.

*Xbox Live Productions – presumably new XBLA game(s)

*Lionhead Studios – new Fable game in detail.

*Lift London – apparently they have multiple AAA Cloud Based gaming projects. Could be anything.

*Press Play – another adventure game?

*Rare Ltd. – just finished Kinect Sports, probably have something else to show too. Perhaps another Perfect Dark?

*Soho Productions – another game aimed at kids.

*BigPark – definitely have another Kinect game in the works.

*Black Tusk Studios – Gears of War won't yet be ready, I'd guess a trailer is shown anyway. Uses the latest Unreal Engine.

Someone that better understands Microsoft predict their games much better.

Pretty dry list and this is part of my concern the stuff we know about are mostly ports/remakes of titles people have already played or titles I think won't be out anytime soon. If you owned a PS3 how many of these titles are you going to want to buy these titles over just to play them in 1080P? IMO ports are ok but farm the work out to a third party and have your studios doing something new.

Where is a new Singstar title for families? How about a new Eyetoy game for kids? They could really silence MS on Kinect if they came out this June with an Eyetoy game that builds on what they did on PS3 and a Singstar game or dance game with good camera functionality. Surely a year is more than enough time to develop 2 or 3 titles on hardware that is supposedly easier to get results with.... Its a lack of focus which again has me concerned.

WRT Morpheus, IMO its interesting tech and I like that Sony is looking to be a player in the space and are taking steps to make sure their teams are capable at adapting to any changes due to VR but I see little reason invest too much money or resources at this time. PS NOW and Morpheus in theory sound really cool but when you try to monetize it things get complicated.

For me Sony should be more focused on building out the functionality of the PS4 OS and producing games not getting distracted with streaming old games and new tech like VR.
