For the last time - GPUs lend themselves very well to ultra high (inflated?) flop ratings.
So is Cell -- both are massively parallel processors.

It's a two-way street, both numbers are meaningless.

Sony and MS will both massively inflate FLOPS. I'd put more money on the MS solution being more balanced and useful in everything but marketing.
GPU shaders give you dumber numbers than CPU numbers. Cell's FLOP figure will be more realistic than the numbers of the Nvidia GPU they put in IMO. But we'll see. IMO, GPU FLOPS are worthless. For CPUs, their general purpose nature makes the number a bit more meaningful. PEACE.

Read that guys!!! hehe... the new playstation 3 is gonna be able to do 2.18 teraflops.

The PS3 CPU is a 1:7 CELL @ 3.2GHz and performs 215GFLOPs.

Very very nice... although not as mind boggling as what some people were speculating. The xCPU has 3 PPC cores to do a lot of interger and general game code, it will be interesting to see how they perform in real life.

So the X360 cpu cores, and the PE core in the Cell are the chip afterall..?

It seems more than a co-incidence that both are clocked at 3.2GHZ. I think its the best that IBM can do at this time.
