PlayStation 5 DualSense Edge Controllers

If it's 2 for $20, then there goes hope they'd be of better, non drifting quality.
I'd think it's the price of a single stick unit, the modules are identical on both sides, or are they?
if they are multi sourcing the sticks just like dualsense and PS5/PS4 fans, then it goes back to your luck.

got ALPS? yay. probably last almost forever (like my xbox360 wired gamepad that still i use today)

got the weird-looking Y brand (or whatever thats not alps)? it'll drift even if you baby it. (like my dualsense)

Haven't had drift on either of my Controllers. And I have had them since Dec 2020.

Apparently this has worse battery life ?

I really hate that my elite 2 has a built in battery. double a batteries are so much better imo

Yes. This was Sony's statement on it, (taken from the previously linked Tweet):

The DualSense Edge wireless controller’s operating time is moderately shorter than the original DualSense wireless controller because we’ve included many more features within the same form factor and ergonomic design as the original DualSense controller. We wanted to strike a good balance between wireless operating time and delivering robust, high-performance features. Additionally, the longer USB braided cable is also great for competitive players who prefer playing with a wired connection to avoid wireless interference – this option preserves battery life.

wonder what exactly moderately shorter means in this context. Like I said I really miss double a batteries. I would just have a jar of them and when my xbox 360 or one controller died i'd quickly swap the batteries and then put them on the charger and back into the jar when done charging.

In the 360/ps3 era I had collected about a gallon jug of Alps brand sticks I removed from controllers because of drift. After that I stopped collecting them and threw them all away because the novelty of having a jug full of sticks wore off. Alps sticks will drift just like any other brand will.

Interesting. How about magnet sticks? I never got one so dunno its drifty or not

I haven't done anything with the modern ones. IIRC Dreamcast analogs use magnets. Saturn 3D controllers definitely do. And so do Xbox One and Series triggers. I haven't seen many DC gamepads with drift sticks, if any. I've never seen a Saturn stick drift. Xbox One controller triggers will fail, but it's usually from abuse. Like, the hinge will fail on a mechanical level if you smash them, and is some rare cases, you can crush the magnetic sensor that's on the board. But usually, if the trigger is in good physical shape, if the trigger doesn't work it's because someone put the magnet in backwards, or tried to remove/reflow the left stick without the appropriate tools of skill level and burned/removed it.

I believe you can add analogs to the steam deck

Yeah, I've seen those. I think they are already soldered to a board and might use an interposer or something, I'm not sure. But the replacements I've seen are drop in replacements that just have you plugging in a ribbon cable. I've never worked on a steam deck.

Also those horrible d-pads on the 360. They were braking if they were being used extensively. I literally hated that controller's d-pad.
The D-pad was horrible also on One and felt like the 360's almost. I am getting the impression that they were prone of failure too.

Xbox One's (and Series) DPad is my favorite. They use metal dome switch which is clicky and has a great tactile feel. Much better than the mushy silicone of the Playstation. I don't think the failure rate is any higher without abuse. Usually when I have to replace the domes on an Xbox controller it's because someone spilled something on it. But it's really easy. The domes come on a sticker and you just peel off the old one, clean off the Mountain Dew Code Red*, and put a new one on.

Dpads on 360 were trash, though. It was hard to get precise inputs with those, and they feel all mushy.

*I think it's more often Bang now.

Both of our DualSense d-pads are more 'clicky' than mushy.

Are you sure clicky is the work you are looking for? They might have a little thump at the end when the silicon pad passes it's tension threshold, but they don't click. Xbox dpads have an audible and tactile click to them. Dualsense dpads have a silicon pad mush and sometimes an audible squeak or creak.

I was referring to the tactile feel. Now you mention it, the Xbox Series controlled d-pad clicking is loud/annoying as fuck.
How have I never noticed this!?!
