That's not saying much. 2x 6800 Ultra is less than I'd be expecting. a 24-pipe 6800 refresh @ 533Mhz would yield 2x the fillrate of the 6800 Ultra.

I'd be looking for them to add HDR MSAA, fix dynamic branching a little, better AA, more HDR texture formats, etc.

" The nVidia-powered graphics are twice as powerful as a GeForce 6800 Ultra. "

"Sony also unveiled the PS3's graphics chip, the RSX "Reality Synthesizer based on Nvidia technology. The GPU will be capable of 128bit pixel precision, 1080p resolution, some of the highest HD resolution around. It also has over 300 million transistors lager than any processor available commercially today. It was manufactured using the 90nm process with 8 layers of metal. The RSX is more powerful than two GeForce 6800 ultras, which would cost rough $1000 if bought today. "

Its G70 @ 90nm.

 :D  :D

Ok, I'm feeling alittle happier after reading that. It means they've really put thought into HDR and Hi-Def. What about AA and shaders tho? :devilish:

But 128-bit framebuffers? Are they mad? They don't have the bandwidth for that... unless...nah....512-bit GDDR memory bus? :devilish:

That GPU looks like PC part GPU to be honest. Just adapt it to Cell.

It looks like a rush job, the PS3. :(

That'll be fairly common soon (it terms of hardware actually doing it), IMO...

Hmm... that hasn't been confirmed, 22.4 GB/s is assuming 128bit bus...512bit sounds to high...

it could be something that is there for the pc part and will never be used on the ps3 but wil lbe great for marketing speak

I thought 22.4gb/s was the FlexIO bandwidth between CELL and GPU, not the bandwidth between GPU and its memory.

Like the black and the white, not the silver.

it's 700mhz GDDR (1400MHz effective) * 128bit bus (assumed) ~ 22.4 GB/s

FlexIO ~ 77 GB/s (45 GB/s out, 32 GB/s IN)
