"Out of the box, the PS3 will have the capability to support seven Bluetooth controllers. It will also have six USB slots for peripherals--four up front and two in the back. "

Dave, Why is that, because they didn't use eDRAM? Even if they had all the time in the world, they may have still decided against eDRAM.

If they had more time I would have expected them to either both go with XDR or both Sony andNVIDIA provide a way of accessing the memory via Cell (possibly with an eDRAM buffer as you say).

A single UMA seems easier like an easier solution and dual sourcing different memory types probably isn't going to make life easier (not that MS's life s going to be easy with the number of chip suppliers they've got).

I don't get where they are pulling the 2 TFlops figure from. Even if you assume a 24-pipe GPU @ 500Mhz, and 2 ALU SIMD ops per pipe, that gives you only 96flops. How do they go from 200gflops CELL to 2 teraflops just with the NV GPU?

Doesn't look all that radically different then 360.. kind of what we all expected no??

actually depending on what the gpu can actually do its pretty much what i though.

Though i thought 600mhz for the ati gpu and 700mhz for the nvidia gpu.

My question is if nvidia's gpu is going to be using 3dc as that may give microsoft an advantage in regards to normal maps

It's an arbitrary figure just like MS 1 TFlop....

I don't believe in 700Mhz GPUs.

I think at this point, PS3 has the advance in CPU, but XB has the advantage in GPU. I think the PS3 GPU will be a GeForce6 refresh (G70 tweak?) No tesselation unit, same AA, etc

I think XBGPU will have feature advantage and shader-op advantage, but PS3 GPU might have fillrate advantage when doing hi-res HDR, etc.

so basicly, PS3 is getting 7 / 8ths or 6 / 8ths of a full Processor Element, clocked at 3.2 GHz which will provide a little less than twice the floating point performance as Xbox360 CPU.

now i want to hear about that Nvidia GPU.

it could be . democoder . I like the support for more controlers but 7 doesn't make much sense . How would u split a screen seven ways properly ?

I like the bluray support but i think it came at the cost of a hardrive built in .

Anyway it looks like ms will be able to even out the market somewhat which is good for all of us . Mabye in two year we can buy 150$ next gen consoles :)

"NVidia is working with Sony on the "RSX Reality Synthesizer" for the PS3. It will be able to produce "movie quality" graphics at 60 FPS."

What is that?

Toshiba GPU was called RS
EDIT: a guy told me a couple of months ago he heard NVIDIA GPU was internally called RSX. I guess he was right ;)

No, GameSpot had mistaken it. They corrected it already.

EDIT: OMG PR says so :?

" The nVidia-powered graphics are twice as powerful as a GeForce 6800 Ultra. "

"Sony also unveiled the PS3's graphics chip, the RSX "Reality Synthesizer based on Nvidia technology. The GPU will be capable of 128bit pixel precision, 1080p resolution, some of the highest HD resolution around. It also has over 300 million transistors lager than any processor available commercially today. It was manufactured using the 90nm process with 8 layers of metal. The RSX is more powerful than two GeForce 6800 ultras, which would cost rough $1000 if bought today. "

so in 6 months is going to be cheap enough to be included in a 300$ console . These sites make me laugh
