Official White Knight Story (level 5 RPG) thread

No release date announced except for Japan...can't you do a Google search? Seriously...first you state that you had no interest in the game whatsoever so far, which changed, and then you can't be bothered to look it up. People these days...

Translated video interview from IGN. New or old, I haven't seen it before, and I thought I'd share.

I'm happy to see that the single player combat looks notably more fluid than the multiplayer battles. From the videos I've seen, the online combat looked like your typical online RPG, with poor (to non-existent) hit detection with that general "floaty" or "disconnected" appearance. This video shows (single player) combat very reminiscent of the announcement trailer they released at TGS many moons ago.

On a side note, according to the interview, they have no plans for another Dark Cloud sequel, but (foreign) media seems to always request one whenever they speak. They may look into it at some point. Akihiro Hino (Producer) thinks fans of Dark Cloud will enjoy some of the functionality they're added to White Knight. No specifics given.

EDIT

Finally found the date for the interview. It is old, September, 2007.

The game's out in Japan in a week or two, isn't it? The must be some better footage out there. Can't say the more recent stuff I've seen has invoked interest like the paced and deliberate combat of the original CG trailer but then I haven't seen much.

The original trailer wasn't CG, was it? It looked fairly similar to what we have now, I'm sure it was at least using the engine and / or assets.

That said, I'm with you, haven't seen much about this to interest me too much.

I can't remember if it was CG or not, but it had a lot more class than the current showings that are similar in style and principle, but lack the feel of the original showing. Basically the original trailer I thought was quite beautiful, and the current screens look very bland. There's such a limited amount of media though, there's no fair comparison (time of day, setting, camera viewpoint) at the moment.

Yea, the transitions in the original trailer were amazing, and currently it's a bit janky in the real game.

Still, I am keeping my hopes up that despite some of these short comings, it will still be a good game.

Famitsu review scores released. 7,8,7,7 (29/40). Surprised it was so low (relatively speaking). I figured Level-5 would have bought enough ad space in Famitsu to at least score straight 8s. (I kid, I kid sorta). It will be interesting to see what they (Level-5) do with feedback from reviewers and players for the western release (as they did with Rogue Galaxy, if I remember correctly).

Yeah strange one. They gave LR 38/40 yet it got 5`s 6`s and 7`s elswhere. Clearly more reviews are needed before a better judgement can be made.

The general comments were actually fairly positive, but they had a problem with text entry, apparently, and maybe online.

I am generally sceptical about games that are given very high scores, there is always the possibility some "incentive" has been given for it or hype having an effect. Its different with low scoring games.
The reviewer just didnt like it and i dont think that opinion should be disregarded, whether you believe th magazine has been payed for good reviews or not in the past.

Its a shame, i was realy looking forward to this. Had my fingers crossed for subtitles so i could import it. After watching the recent videos for the game it did dampen my excitement though, it looked pretty bad to me.

Apparently 203k copies sold first week, second highest debut week for a console RPG (after Dragon Quest Swords). #1 on MC/Famitsu this week as well. Of course it may just be because the PS3 userbase is starved for RPGs.

Valkyria Chronicles didn't sell great and that's a great RPG.
