Official Microsoft Japan Summit 2005

Frankly, I think we're running into dimishing returns on exterior polygon counts for cars. Maybe Bizzare decided fully modelled interiors were a better use of polygons that would otherwise be used just to smooth out curves to a degree that you'd never see during gameplay anyway.

Yeah, that is what I was trying to say. The actual number isn´t impressive, but for example cars in GT4 were made of what, ~5k polys each? And yet they looked much better in motion, maybe that´s the case here.

 Stoll being a troll. I guess by your "logic" we could claim that it's not even "really" 40,000 anymore, it's more like 10-20,000 polys, because we'll spend most of the time looking at just the back side of the cars

Sheez, it was just my opinion. I even tried to explain it, God forbid that someone isn´t impressed by a mere 4x increase in polygon budget for the car.

One last time, I HOPE THAT IN MOTION AND ACTUAL SCREENS THE CARS LOOK MUCH BETTER THAN THE ACTUAL INCREASE SOUNDS. Better?

Fine maybe I'm being grouchy. I appologize.....

But the poly budget for the cars has gone up 8X's.... not 4.

Well, looks like some 'good stuff' is starting to show up; I'll give Microsoft the benefit of the doubt still as to the E3 thing then. ;)

I'm looking for more info and hopefully a trailer on '99 Knights'...

That it's running real-time on prelim hardware is certainly a good sign.

Something's up at the IGN Xbox360 boards.... I can't even log into the real-time thread anymore about the summit.

Our over seas correspondent Anoop Gantayat reports that Tetsuyo Mizuguchi showed off the first in-game footage of Ninety Nine Nights at the Xbox Summit in Japan. What was shown resembled a next generation Dynasty Warriors in which players will take on the rolls of many different characters. The video featured a bother and sister named Aspharr and Inphy - we'll confirm the spelling at a later date.

The footage showed hundreds of characters on screen at once and displayed awesome magic spells. There are currently 150 people working on this title and everything shown was running on actual hardware.

That looks pretty damn nice. MS has also managed to get Winning Eleven and Rumble Roses from Konami, and from Tecmo DOA4, DOA Extreme 2, Project Progressive and Code Cronus.

jvd beat me to posting the list. :p

Heh, RR6 turned out to be real.

I'm goig to go out on a limb and say they have made a choice on hd-dvd and now they are just stringing everything along waiting for the best time

That's going to be interesting considering that back in May Toshiba said the first HD-DVD players would be $1000.

They confirmed their plans to have an HD DVD player on the market before the end of the year (about $1000), together with a substantial number of discs from several studios. An HD DVD recorder is unlikely before 2007. The final HD DVD specification is nearly complete, with no major disagreements remaining that might slow up the schedule (including the all-important Digital Rights Management). For those hoping for 1080p from HD DVD, don't hold your breath—Toshiba confirmed that the data is recorded on HD DVD in 1080i, and there are no plans to change that. The players have already been designed for 1080i discs, and it would take a redesign to enable them to handle 1080p discs, even if there were plans to produce them.

I highlighted other interesting bits that _I_ wasn't aware of. The likely date for a recorder, the lack of 1080p, and the possibility of HD-DVD supporting 1080p.

Frankly I don't really keep up on specs for products that haven't shipped yet so maybe this is old....

Cars have been well into diminishing returns on that during this generation. The early models for our game (which were a horrible waste of polys) were 25-28k, and included stuff like fully modelled screws on wheelplates (not just the top of the screw, the WHOLE thing was in there, like a real screw).

Now I do think there's still room to go higher then 40k for exterior when you want a detailed deformation and a large amount of breakable car parts, but it's not really about making the car detail look noticeably nicer anymore at that point.

Is anybody else worried about these many next gen games having hundreds of characters on screen? I hated the Dinasty Warriors games, I hope these games don´t share the same kind of gameplay.

That's going to be interesting considering that back in May Toshiba said the first HD-DVD players would be $1000.

A standalone HD DVD player at $1000 is a little different from a HD DVD drive for PC or Xbox 360 at $100 each. NEC also said they'll be releasing HD DVD drives for PC in Sept.

I highlighted other interesting bits that _I_ wasn't aware of. The likely date for a recorder, the lack of 1080p, and the possibility of HD-DVD supporting 1080p.

HD DVD recorders will be available in 2006, but I don't see what that has anything to do with a reader. Also MS has already said the content on HD DVDs will be in a 1080p format. Whether the player will allow 1080p output or not is up to the player manufacturer.

Anyway that screen with all the detailed characters look pretty nice.

Does anyone know if these are all exclusives?

Some of these are very good wins for MS in the Japanese market if they are indeed exclusives.

Project Progressive....what is this? From Team Ninja?

Just an internal name? (....for NG2 ;) )
