Nvidia Geforce Drivers Release Announcement thread

I don't know if it drivers, me or ue5 but i've played stalker 2 and avowed the last couple of days and framegen is causing screen tearing. Without it the vrr works fine (it's a monitor with and actual gsync module using display port connection) all the driver settings are set to how I normally have them and never really had issues. I couldn't get stalker 2 to a state performance wise I was happy with so I moved on from that to avowed and this is running well enough for me that i'll play it but nvidia framegen is tearing no matter what i do. I'm just using using lossless scaling in adaptive mode to push me to the 144hz refresh rate and no tearing even when it drops an odd frame on the output.

I'll probably test it again once new drivers come out, ninja gaiden 2 black worked fine with nvidia framegen but I was on drivers from january then. Might roll back and test if new drivers don't turn up in the near future.

Well this mentality is not new at all. “Nobody gets fired for buying IBM” does not mean IBM's products had no problems, but because people were so used to their products they knew and expected the problems and they had ways of mitigations. If they changed to a new product from another vendor, it could have a completely different sets of problems, which would be quite unexpected and thus causing more troubles.
It's like this with Microsoft now. Microsoft has outages and problems somewhat regularly, but if someone calls and asks why they can't sign into their email and I tell them it's a Microsoft outage they just go "oh well" and wait it out like it's bad weather or something. I've never had a single client ask if they can switch to a different email host. Meanwhile if any services from smaller providers break, hell is raised until it gets fixed, apologies are issued, alternatives are considered etc.

I feel NVIDIA is reaching this Microsoft style "force of nature" status in the public perception, where it would take very significant and persistent issues for most users to consider switching to another vendor. Outside of this forum, many gamers I talk to are only vaguely aware that AMD makes graphics cards.

You have to force vsync in the driver's game profile if you want it to be enabled with DLSS FG.
I just don't want the tearing and I normally don't have to play around with vsync settings at all. I'll give it a try and see if that fixes the tearing though, will let you know how it goes. Cheers for the help.

edit: Made no difference, turn frame gen on and tearing turn it off and no tearing. Lossless scaling set to normal mode and frame rate locked to 60 locks it to around 120 and no tearing so vrr is working there (144hz monitor). I've only played these 2 games since the driver update, i'll fire up cyberpunk and see if that's tearing i've never had tearing issues with that with or without FG. If that's borked gotta be driver.

edit1: yeh cyberpunk tearing aswell, little bit annoyed at the moment so gonna go and forget about it for the moment.

How does that work? For example hypotheticaly if FG doubles your framerate, if your monitor is 120Hz, will the game lock to 60FPS and then FG it to 120?

That’s the prevailing theory yeah. It locks the raw render rate to max-refresh/x where x is the FG factor.

The way it normally works is reflex caps the framerate below the refresh rate, so on my 144hz monitor vsync on or off normally doesn't matter as reflex caps it to 138. It's why FG has to be used with reflex. This brings me to my problem, had a burst of energy earlier and played around and what seems to be happening is reflex doesn't seem to be working or if it is it isn't capping the framerate. I'm seeing my framerate bounce off the 144hz limit, tried capping it with the drivers built in limiter to 142 and it caps it kind of but the framerate will still hit 144 then bounce around and tear then sit on 142 again for a few seconds then repeat.

On a side note this is on gamepass, which is notorious for having screwed up nvidia implementations soooooo that's another thing to consider. Ninja Gaiden did work flawlessly with frame gen on gamepass for me but that was an older driver, will roll back tomorrow and see if that helps.

I havn't had driver issues since probably early windows 10, if it is drivers and not just more gamepass yank.

Yup, NVIDIA App just auto-updated itself when I went to open it. I'll play with it more this evening, probably with CP2077...

Edit; After it updated, I noticed yet another driver update available (I literally updated my driver yesterday to play the HL2 RTX Remix demo) and I went ahead and accepted it. It's been years since I've had a driver install go stupid, but this one did for whatever reason. Install process did its thing until the screen went blank, which typically only lasts a second or two... Nope, after two minutes of doing nothing, I touched the soft power button to let it politely shut down. After another two minutes of obviously nothing happening, I hard reset the box.

It came back up and had the new driver installed, but the box acted like the mouse input was on a 2hz sampling rate and everything was god-awful slow. No obvious problems visible in task manager, I messed with it for like five minutes trying to understand what was going on before giving up and trying yet another reboot. And of course, Windows being what it is, the this-time-polite reboot solved whatever problem I was having.

Anyway, posting this as a curiosity to see if anyone else has a challenge with their update. Seriously though, I haven't had a botched video driver install in so long...

That driver that black screened on you did it to me when rolling back to the january driver. I had to hard reset aswell. It then happened when going from 572.16 to 572.83. I'm done with the nvidia app driver updates, I havn't had driver issues since early windows 10 and the last couple of weeks has been a time capsule ride to the bad old days.

Uninstalled all the nvidia drivers, downloaded the driver package myself and installed it and my system seems to be running properly again. It's been so long since i've had issues I had to go google if windows 11 still had a safe mode as I don't think i'vee used it since windows 8.

yeah i dont let nvidia app install drivers, i get the full package myself and install but i just do a normal install over the old driver, only very rarely do i do a clean install in the driver install itself and i will only do a total removal of the driver with DDU in specific and very rare circumstances

What's wrong with it?
Crashing.
