You can wait indefinetly, there's always something better coming on the horizon, I believe that's called marketing... ;)

... and I'm a sucker for holding out when it comes to tech stuff. Sometimes I don't even know what I'm waiting for. At least in this case I know. :D

So you're holding out for a $200 portable game system that will hit in November from Nintendo? That is if the latest reported rumors are to be believed.

I haven't seen anything about price though.

If the NX turns out to be a handheld/home hybrid with proper tablet/phablet hardware, then I'd expect it to cost more than $200. Probably in the $300-350 range.

It's not about price. It's about moving at the right time.

I waited for IPS to replace TN in the 16:10 monitors I wanted. I waited for Halo 5. I even tried waiting for Bulldozer. And now I'm waiting for 14nm GPUs - only this time I got smart. I bought a second hand 680 OC for very little money, to make waiting painless. I learned to both wait and not wait at the same time.

If NX is a hot mess I'll get a 3DS. If NX is great but expensive .... I'll wait.

I whine about WiiU being a disappointment, but I got one as soon as they announced a release date for Super Smash. So I'll probably preorder the NX anyway as soon as there's one good game announced, regardless of hardware specs. I can't control myself, I should change my signature for "Hello, my name is MrFox and I'm a consumer whore"

You should get a 3DS now. Many great titles are already on the platform.

Nintendo (or not!) classics on a stereoscopic screen? Check. Why wait?

The other day I was reading news article from Bing Entertainment News (to get my free credits) and a few of the articles mentioned a portable $200 system and no mention of a home console at all. I'll try to dig them up again.

So a Japanese company is predicting Nintendo NX to be a $200 handhold released this year with the home console portion being released in 2017 but no predictions on that price.

Pokémon GO could be the first Augmented Reality game playable on the Nintendo NX, according to Macquarie Capital Securities's predictions.

The Japanese-based company predicts that Nintendo's upcoming NX console will be marketed with a $200 price point and will have an element of AR in the system's setup. While Pokémon GO has been directed towards the thriving mobile gaming market thus far, MCS has identified the possibility of the game being compatible for NX too.

MCS are not the first to make predictions in regards to the Nintendo NX, after all, Nintendo have released very little in terms of console specification. One games consultant, Dr. Sertan Toto, claims that Niantic are opening more and more doors for these interactive titles.

“In a quote, John Hanke (CEO of Niantic proper) says the platform is a new business he wants to see developing quicker through his company’s Japan operations.

“Generally speaking, Japanese gaming companies (I mean Nintendo in this specific case) love going vertical by becoming platforms if any opportunity to do so opens up: so it might very well be that Pokemon is not the only Nintendo mobile game that will make use of AR and GPS going forward," wrote Toto in his Kanten Games blog.

Nintendo NX will reportedly release in two parts, with the first controller device coming this year while part two - a console - will launch in 2017.

Having the handheld first and home console second could be a good idea, if it sells well there will be a bigger market for the home console, assuming it's buy once play on either devices, and it's a scaled up (resolution/quality) version of the handheld.
It may also double as a dedicated server for multiplayer games, which would make devs life easier. (Internet dedicated servers when playing on the go, home console as dedicated server when playing at home.)

Note that it does not have to be the same hardware, Nintendo has hinted about a software platform, so I rather think about something like Android+OpenGL/Windows+DX/iOS|MacOSX+Metal.

It's very unfortunate that I have to drive to the office, I'd love a google car to play Nintendo NX or read books during commute !
Ah well, the future isn't there yet :(

Bets on either 802.11b-only or 802.11ac-only?

// I missed that device in due time though to me it pretty much what I expect from a modern handheld, that is leaving library aside. It also goes on showing pretty well how overpriced handheld are, coming from Nintendo or not.
Geeks are to have a stroke but I actually think that that device overshot it on a few points: the screen resolution is too high, there is too much RAM, too much storage. There are points where it undershot it mostly t e wifi capability. There are things done right like the 2 analog sticks. There is a thing I don't get: the control spacing: why pack everything as if there was a screen taking room in the middle? The D-pad is too tiny.

If Nx home version releases in 2017, it will meet PS4 slim@16 nm process, which will have 70m install base at that time. Nintendo should make a very cheap home console or it cannot compete with existing consoles.

Yes, I think I agree. I think the timing is particularly bad for a powerful NX this year or next. People aren't going to dump the PS4 or even Xbox for a powerful and expensive Nintendo platform now. In 2+ years, that's a possibility. However, I don't think Nintendo has the time to wait.

By the end of 2016, I expect PS4/X1 to retail for $299 (if not less, certainly Nov/Dec deals, around NX launch, will be $249 or lower). I think Nintendo's only choice in the short term is to launch a very cheap console.

If Nintendo launch cheap, then they launch low power. And that limits their audience in much the same way WiiU is limited. The only people who'd want a <= $250 console that isn't one of the existing platforms with large library, full publisher support, and lots of friends, are Nintendo enthusiasts (Nintendo's ever diminishing core fans) or someone wanting something new that only NX can offer.

I suppose the handheld <> console synergy could result in ~50 million handhelds over a few years and some interest among those owners in getting a console. However, I don't see a way out for Nintendo when it comes to home console competition, unless they introduce an incredibly desirable product. Something really 'Apple' and lifestyle, all magnesium alloy and shiny black and something you'd be proud to show your metrosexual mates without fear of them thinking it was a preschool toy.
