Nintendo 3DS hardware thread

My friend at nintendo world told me he got almost 7 hours of battery life with the 3ds set to the second highest brightness and 3D maxed.

7 hours seems good to me .

If that's the case, then sign me up.

BTW, I've heard the same rumor, but I also heard it wasn't running a game.

Not a rumor , my buddy works at nintendo world (its nintendo's store in NYC ) and they were given 3ds units to test . They have 2 units and they aren't allowed out of the store. He was using one of the AR games to test the battery life

Oh so he was playing with it? Interesting. I know Nintendo give out conservative numbers, but they are usually pretty accurate. I didn't think they'd underestimate it that much.

Man, how'd your buddy get a job at that place. I tried getting one there as well, but didn't have any openings. It's perks like this that makes me want to work there.

I've known him since senior year in highschool we worked at gamestop together until he got a job as a manager in the garden state plaza which is the biggest mall in NJ . He worked there for awhile and was allways getting good numbers and awards from gamestop and then like two years after nintendo world opened he got a job as an assitant manager and has been there ever since. Its great cause we got to go to the front of the line for myimoto (how do u spell his name) autograph session and a few other perks

I was in before he even got there ! I had my red mario ds signed by him and had pizza with them !

By the time I got there, the lines was like 2 blocks long.

Umm... anyway, we're getting off topic.

I've heard reports say that people over exaggerate how far you have to move the 3DS to lose the 3D effects. They said it's a lot wider than most 3D displays so far. Obviously, you can move it in such a way that it'll break the effect, but you really have to go out of your way to do that.

I makes me feel a lot better about having motion controls included with the device.

In my experience, the angles at which you lose the 3D effect are angles you'd never want to be at while playing a handheld. When I played with it a friend looking over my shoulder could see the 3D.

I was thinking more about the motion sensing capabilities. When I heard moving would destroy the effect, I figured it's a stupid function that clashes with it's main selling point. Now that we know it's not that easy to lose the 3D effect, I feel better about it having motion capabilities.

It works poorly with monkey ball as you do loose the effect because its moving very often. but on some games where you'd move left or right once in awhile slowly it would work well

The 3ds sold out of its inital japanese launch units in hours . 400k apparently so it seems to be pretty popular

So now that it's out, anyone knows exactly what CPU is in there?

Seems like a kinda pointless strategy to raise demand to a fever pitch when it was already there.

It was explained to me as a way to keep 3rd parties happy. people normaly buy titles when they first buy a system so those 3rd parties that miss launch day may not do well in the sales department , but with the stagard launch 3rd parties can time delayed titles to hit with the next shipment. Usa and europe are a month later so they wont have the same problems

Sounds plausible. I personally just thought the screens might have held production back...
