Nintendo 3DS business/general talk *spin-off feat. 3DS as a P.I. in New Orleans

There is no reason to assume they would charge such high amounts for the controller. MS also has really crazy accesory prising, but the controllers aren't that expensive. Prising is always strategic and if they want to push gaming the prising would have to reflect that.

MS and Sony console accessories are downright reasonable compared to anything i branded.

However it doesn't matter as the iPad is a long way from competing with a home console.

I'll just throw this out there.

49.99$ for Kinect extension cord. That's about as bad as I've ever seen.

Granted the base unit itself (360) is not making a big profit so making some money from the accesories is different in this situation, but that doesn't change the fact that there are plenty of companies out there that rob us with their accesories pricing.

If $50 for a cable is as bad as you've seen you're living a very sheltered life. Fortunately MS has about a dozen competitors selling basically the same cable for much less.

Now find me where I can pick up a reasonably priced Apple to HDMI dongle.

Sorry couldn't find one, but you can check from the same place that sells those cheap wifi adapters and propietary HDDs and mem cards for the 360.

Edit: Apples accesory pricing is pretty reasonable compared to what they ask for upgrades in their Mac and other lineups. The accesory pricing pretty much looks like par for the course for similar companies.

Seriously ? If I went out and bought an acer iconia for $450 i can buy a $4 hdmi cable. With apple i first have to buy this

What if i want to add an sd card ?

$40?

Then i have all this extra crud on me. Even my 3ds has an sd card. Apple should keep with the times

Yeah the problem with Apple is that you have to buy a lot of accesories, but the accesories itself for the ios devices aren't really more expensive than accesories for many other devices, but yeah many of those should either be built in or come with the unit.

I think thats the problem , apples rush to get more profits makes the device unusable for me. I really don't want to carry so many extra things on me.

does the same rule apply to a certain american console company? ;)

Clearly a home console was intended to be carried in your pocket, so its a valid comparison.

That's sarcasm, in case you can't grasp that either.

and i seriously have no idea whats he even talking about ? My xbox 360 has nothing extra that isn't built in. The controllers obviously aren't attached and neither is the tv screen. But seriously what isn't attached that is attached in the other consoles ?

Anyway like I said in other threads. I like keeping few things on me. A phone is limited in battery life and i really need my phone to text and make calls not play games. So i don't mind bringing a portable system with me. The 3ds has better graphics than any current phone /tablet (mabye not the windows tablets) and has much better games and dedicated controls for it.

The ipad how it is requires to many add ons to get to the functions i require out of a tablet. So its not interesting to me. Carrying an sd card reader + a hdmi cable attachment + hdmi cable + sd card holder isn't apealing.

Something like the iconia i'd carry the tablet and mabye a small case (talking about the size of a few sd cards ) to hard sd cards for extra data on me and mabye an hdmi cable. Heck for all the extra stuff i have to bring around for the ipad over an andriod or windows tablet i could bring a 3ds or ngp

What?

All the extra accessories that the ipad needs?

What do you need to carry on a SD card that can't be carried in the 16-64Gb of built in storage or the free extra cloud storage through apps like Dropbox?

People love a SD card slot because it allows you to expand the built in memory without paying a premium a manufacturer usually charges to provide it. Not very many people carry a case full of SD cards to swap in and out on a continual basis. Anyway, Itunes lets you house a repository on a lap or desktop to accomodate large amounts of Ipad content.

Plus the App store allows you to download for free, any app you purchase previously but deleted off the ipad due to circumstances like storage constraints. Thereby giving you access to the your whole library in the presence of wifi or 3g.

You really need a hdmi cable for a tablet with a 9.7 inch screen? People go around commandeering other people's TVs on the regular?

I carry around 1 accessory for my ipad and thats the cover. Even if i had an Android tablet I would use it no different than I use my Android phone. And thats dropping in a SD card to expand the storage but managing that storage through a micro USB and computer. Pretty much the way I manage data on my Ipad.

I can't imagine anyone needing a screen bigger than 9.7"' to watch a movie. All these people that buy big screen TV's are just complete idiots. And downloading that movie (over 3g) every time I want to watch it, is completely practical.

I can buy a 16GB sd card for $20 bucks. So for $100 I can buy 5 16 gig cards or 80 gigs of storage space. The ipad i can never upgrade its my understanding that $500 gets me 16GB and $100 per 16GB that seems like a hugely lousy deal to me.

As for apps like dropbox it ight be good if i'm allways some where with a fast connection , but i don't want yet another monthly bill so 3G is out and i don't want to have to download an 800mb movie when i can just fill up a 16GB sd card with music , a 16GB sd card with movies and keep the rest on the internal flash. Whats great is that flash goes down all the time and i can buy 32GB or 64GB card in the future for $20 bucks .

I have a canon hf 11 which uses sd cards and i have a nice little case to keep my sd cards in its even smaller than the sd card reader for the ipad .

Now you want me to keep laptop or desktop with me when i'm traveling ? It doesn't seem like the ipad is very portable if i need large amounts of data .

and thats great if i am by wifi or 3g or if i have the time to redownload stuff

If i go on vacation and i don't want to have to travel through an airport with my niece and nephew and the added bulk of a laptop and a tablet then yea ... yea i do want a hdmi cable.

I go down the shore alot to the shore house and would much rather bring just my tablet with me and watch movies there. I don't pay for cable or anything down there so ust get basic stuff. If i have netflix on the tablet its even better

or what if i buy a movie on itunes and then i'm at my gf's and we want to watch it ? Or my tvs on the head rests of my car

Thats how you use your ipad. Its not how everyone wants to use it

All those people buy those tvs to watch movies in the comfort of their own homes not provide a bigger experience for guest who wants to hook up an iPad with a hdmi connection. A 16 gb is enough for at least a hundred apps and 5 movies.

I don't have to download movies over 3G even though it's a viable option in a pinch. I can stream movies over 3G with apps like plex or Netflix. What portable even offers that option.

Aye!, if u read eastmans post hes complaining about buying propriety connectors which are charged at a premium eg $4 vs $40, now if Im not mistaken the xbox 360 has these also, not to mention HDs etc (unlike the competition) are limited to expensive certain brands, thus my point is valid. Though I'ld be very surprised if eastman complains with the same vigor, due to the company involoved ;)

Let me ask you a question.

Lets say we are going to hang out and i come over, we start talking about a movie and i'm telling you how awsome it is . Now i have my tablet on me so we can actually watch it right there and then on your 60 inch tv or whatever instead of hanging around my tablet.

16GB isn't enough for me . i can't even fit all my podcasts on it.

The xbox 360 had the same problems it was stupid to buy a core + hardrive vs just the premium version and their hardrives were allways priced out of line . 20gig hardrive in 2005 for $100 was nuts. But don't you think 16GB for $100 in 2011 is even crazier ?

Even now with the xbox 360 s the hardrive is still to expensive but its $100 for 250gigs vs 16GB for $100 .

Yes you can buy a sd card reader and three sd cards and get an iPad with 64gb of available data for the same price of a basic model wifi only 32 gb xoom or tab 10.1 which both carry that lousy deal of $100 for an extra lousy 16gb. Or you can get an android tablet with a smartphone os who will probably never see real support for tab based apps or an upgrade path to 3.0 the google tab os. If you get a g tab, remember they come with the proprietary interface pdmi which requires a dock for hdmi out if I'm not mistaken.

I have a canon hf 11 which uses sd cards and i have a nice little case to keep my sd cards in its even smaller than the sd card reader for the ipad .

So you peruse you video catalog on a ds with a screen not much bigger than what's comes on your camcorder. Aren't tv connections wire standard accessory for most camcorders?

Im in no way trying to convince you that grievances with the ipad dont have merit when it comes to you. The reality is your dislike of some of the limitations of the iPad does not resonate strong enough with the overall consumer base to dissuade the iPad from eating up the vast majority of the tab market share. Most users of the iPad have no problem accepting the limitation of the hardware especially in comparison to a ds or PSP where utility and uses are far in favor of the iPad outside of high end portable games.

And?

For me that utility falls way down the list of features and uses that I will consider before purchasing. What if I brought out my iPad and showed you more iPad apps on my 16gb iPad than the total number honeycomb based apps on google android market.
