Well it will be popular because it will be bundled by default :)

Because the new kinect seems to be much more advanced than v1 it will be able to be used in more core games...also devs will be able to create much better games with it featured. ..as its in every box :)

All im saying is for both consoles what constitutes a great gaming experience will be more than simply who has the best graphics by 20%....illumiroom/kinect 2 and both eyetoy/move will see to that.

True Kinect was bundled but that was probably the reason people bought 360?

What I have observed is that Microsoft is aiming for Kinect2 and obviously will have multiplats. So they believe this is good enough for mainstream along with other features like video chat etc... Few games are enough. I do not think graphics are that important. Next gen will be a good jump and people are already impressed with current games on consoles. I do not think few hunderds or even thousand people on internet make difference.

That is the reason for me and some other PS4 already wins by default.

I do not even consider Wii as a gaming console but it did pretty well :???:

Sony and Nintendo were waiting for the online market to grow up (e.g., PS Home started in the PS2 era and remains a "hobby"). MS jumped in with its own resources. Sony's online model is more about all the partner companies doing their own online infrastructure. They don't really want to bear all the online infrastructure costs themselves. Hence they are able to offer free services but the experience is not consistent.

Same for natural UI. MS jumped in and invested heavily after Wii's success. Sony was again still fumbling around. ^_^

What Sony did focus on was expanding its studios, and investing in small developers. And here we are.

Edit: Forgot Sony also invested heavily in Blu-ray and Cell. In any case, they all kinda found their niche.

Just a minor correction. I am pretty sure ms nui work predates wii by over a decade

So does Dr. Richard Marks research work that led to the original eye toy.

When Kaz Hirai said recently he was talking directly to engineers to bring their projects to fruition instead of being lost in the old bureaucracy, I really hope he was talking about Sony's Special Projects labs.

Ok this is just incredible, something amazed me on the same level as Agni's Philosophy.

The new Unigine 4.0 Valley is something else and even an ancient 480 gtx can push out 30fps at 1080p 8xaa, so I really expect Orbis to run it at this quality with all the game mechanics when fully optimized.

Yea heres the same benchmark video running gtx 650 ti

Also here is tim sweeney from epic games making the comparison to high end pc games~

'' We’re more enthusiastic now than ever about the future of high-end platforms. What we’re doing on high-end PCs is going to be representative of the future consumer gaming experience and it’s going to be awesome. It’s going to be a substantial leap over the current generation."

Looks like we can expect unreal engine 4 to running just fine with next gen :)

I guess Sony will include PSEye2. Both will have cams for motion capture.

I'm not convinced Sony will ship the PlayStation 4 with Eye or Move in the box, I think the controllers are simply being made fully compatible with this technology should the user purchase it some time down the road.

But I guess we'll find out in 5 days :)

If the controllers come with Move support as standard I'd be amazed if the PS4 doesn't come with a camera out of the box.

They are two very different things. Live gold offers online gaming features. PSN+ doesn't add very much at all to the online experience. There are cloud saves and patching which Live also offers. PSN+ is basically a content platform offering deals on new content, including free complete games and discounts on all store content. It's more a gamers loyalty programme than anything. As such, PSN+ and Live aren't really comparable. Live should be compared to vanilla PSN, which offers basic online gaming and some chat but isn't up to par with Live.

Having said that, we played Halo 3 on XB360 yesterday and the party aspect was really annoying! Wanted to play split screen coop, and the back of all the Halo boxes said 2-4 player coop in the green section, different from the 2-4 player coop in the red section for online, so we understood it to mean local coop for 4 players which I said I didn't think they had but thought maybe Halo 4 had added. Each controller that we switched on had to log in to an account. Then we loaded the games to be told there were too many players. So we switched off a controller but that didn't log the player out; he was in the party. So we had to switch on the controller, log him out, and then switch it off to play. I just can't get on with the dashboard, either the old one or the new one! Going to the 'game' screen didn't show the game in the drive to play. XMB is far more obvious and user friendly IMO. I wonder where the two consoles will go next-gen? Sony are supposedly abandoning XMB which kinda worries me. It has faults, but should be updated rather than replaced.

There are few things that live offer over PSN,most common use as ammo is party chat which even the PS Vita does free as well,if the PS3 had just a little more ram it would be doing party chat as well now.

Live is basically a rip off and has little value,my words sound harsh but that is the true,MS not only found a way to charge for something every one get free every where else,is also find a way to hide a barrage of free apps on other services under a pay wall.

Once you experience both where it counts online gaming basically both are the same core experience, hell PS3 has more games with dedicated servers than xbox live which is a pay service.

PS3 doesn't offer universal game chat or a universal party system, so I disagree. For solo gaming, perhaps the core is identical, but for friend's wanting to be online together, Live is better/

It's definitely not the same experience. The way the system and games integrate with xbox live party (and group chat) alone puts the online experience on 360 second to none when playing with friends.

Edit: For playing with unknown people than i'd agree that those features doesn't mean much.

Because of what?

Because Sony said it was a technical impossibility with the amount of system resources available. With the vita they had a clean slate with more resources so they could add it.

That can also be used with depth. The skeleton tracking will find the hand placement, and image analysis can track the fingers. I wouldn't discount finger tracking just yet.

Just to add to this, they have a patent on using what sounds like Kinect 2.0 for reading sign language. There was a Kinect 1.0 demo on PC that I saw doing this a while back. Ah, here it is...

It is a machine learning algorithm, but I think it's bayesian classification, as opposed to neural network.

The neural network thing he is thinking of is MS's voice translation tech which translates voice input to text really accurately.

It's pretty heft computer science stuff, whichever way it works, especially since they actually generate the training set.

Yup. More info here for anyone interested.
