News & Rumors: Xbox One (codename Durango)

That's something they should consider when they sign up for the payment plan.
You can't really know ahead of time wether you will find something fun, or useful, now can you.

I've personally always found XBL gold to be of dubious value at best, seeing as everything MS offers is offered for free on the PC (and also on other consoles.) There's no reason for me to want to pay MS just to be able to host multiplayer matches on my own console, for example.

Its not anyone's job to make sure you make sound financial decisions unless you are employing them to do so.

There is a cost to borrowing because no one wants to lend out their capital at a cost to themselves. $600 dollars borrowed today is worth more than $600 will be in two or three years in an enviroment where inflation is the norm.

People make use of borrowing because its often easier to service that debt over the specified time period then it is to come up with the necessary to cash to pay the total cost up front. No one would loan money if it wasn't incentivize through interest rates

And that isn't even considering the substantial risk to the issuer of the credit. If a purchaser/borrower defaults on the loan then the company is out a lot of money. Interest is there not only to cover the cost of inflation but to cover the risk of lending the money in the first place.

And to the original person complaining about how it is ripping off consumers.

Well, it's no different than...

Taking out a car loan to buy a car.
Taking out a mortgage on a house.
Buying something with a credit card.
Buying a carrier subsidized phone with mandatory 2 year contract.
Taking out a student loan in order to go to college.
Etc...

I'm considering the subscription plan, but I need to know a lot more details before I do. $500 for the next system is about $100 more than I wanted to spend up front, especially if that doesn't include the Xbox Live subscription. I'm playing a wait & see attitude now. Backward compatibility with my 360 digital purchases is going to be key. If supported then I could sell my current 360 & Kinect to help alleviate the cost of the new purchase.

They are. They cannot cancel their sub, they are paying top dollar and not some discount people talk about all the time when defending Live and they cannot resell their console without a paying some cancellation fee. Let's call a spade a a spade, taking advantage of those who cannot afford something outright is ripping them off. Tough those people should not be conned so easy and should do the math and learn to save for something so non-essential as a gaming box.

I'm sure it will be big in the US, we love buying crap with money we don't have. MS knows its biggest market.

I'd agree with the rage if Subscription was the only method offered.

If it's an option, then it's the consumers choice.

If MS wants to make a sub based deal more attractive, then it's upto them.

Yup, if a consumer doesn't want to pay a little more in the long run to pay a little less immediately then there's always the option to just pay for the console outright. And hopefully not with a credit card, because then they'd likely end up paying more than what they would have paid with the subscription model (assuming they pay minimum monthly credit card payments like most people do).

It's an option. It's not the only choice.

Myself. I haven't paid for anything with credit in over 10 years now. And I'm not likely to start again. :)

To be sure, I have no idea what the next gen pricing will be, but people were discussing $499 with a $300 financing option, which is the basis Brad Grenz was using for his $660 comment. I'd be very surprised if the next gen consoles launched at that price. I expect a 299-399 range like last time, with a 199 or 99 financing model. I also expect the 360 will drop to free with financing.

That's what I was expecting as well. The $500/$300 pricing was introduced with the Paul Thurrott news. Definitely not what I expected, but if that's what PS4 is launching at then I can understand why they want to launch at the same price.

Make sense, I think at this point they are creating a lot of bad advertisement for them selves, though it kind of lower the coverage about the ps4 but not in a positive manner...

May be they are knee jerking and wait for the highest Ops to double confirm the policies on the matter, who knows.

Maybe they are waiting to the next quarter fiscal report (apr 18).

Exactly

impossible to judge fully until we know if that subscription model includes any special features like DD games or a PS+ type or media services beyond what is available today on live etc...

I will sum this story up as, "Microsoft should reveal the next Xbox because gamers are a sub-human embarrassment."

yep a buncha loudmouths anonymously spouting off on the internet because they are impatient and can not wait to criticize confirmed details rather than criticize just rumors.

No one is forcing anyone to post on rumors so you could choose to ignore the rumors and not comment?

The thing is, these magazines get read by the potential customer and it's yet more bad publicity for a console that doesn't exist. [laughs]

Pretty much everything we hear about xbox is negative, I know someone once said any publicity is good publicity, but I think this negativity is pushing that premise to breaking point. It's only a matter of time before a mainstream news source picks up the story.

Most mainstream news outlets stay away from rumor mongering and printing drivel.
