As for the Xbox One OS, the news saying that the best programmers of the world are working on the new OS might -just maybe- be true.

By definition best would have to include the best (singular), and since I'm not working on it I think you can mark the statement as false :p.

It's clearly hyperbole.

Well, it had the best, but then I left... ;)
Every software company likes to state they have the best programmers in the world. Only one of them can be correct, and I'm pretty sure it's not Microsoft. I suspect it's some tiny software company in Russia or Finland (What is it with those Finns? damn they can code...)

you guys are the best. i dunno what the hell that tweet was thinking... LOL Someone on Theverge once tried to school me on who E.R.P. was... imagine that... they were all on his nuts...

hahahaha, you are two deities, ERP and bkilian. I shall see if I can pull strings so Microsoft hire both of you for the Xbox team. If so, welcome back bkilian. :smile2:

Now seriously.... Additionally, if everything goes as predicted, I am going to start studying computer science later this year, in September. I know it's not the same as coding, but still...

I've been playing the 360 through the Xbox One HDMI input. It helps me take advantage of the X1 features and stay connected to my friends and what they're doing.

It definitely adds some lag. I have my tv in game mode, and I think it's fairly good in terms of input lag. I tried Rocksmith 2014 using the analog audio output on the 360. Rocksmith has a setting for input lag compensation. The visual indicator is not very good, but it seems like this setup adds about 33ms of input lag. It could be more, but it's hard to tell. Adding a 33ms delay seemed to be fine for Rocksmith to work well. I've played some GTA5, and it's definitely not the greatest experience. I can notice the extra lag. It's fine for single-player, but you wouldn't want to play any multiplayer games with this setup. I'll probably finish GTA5 this way, and then just leave it hooked up this way for Rocksmith. The lag compensation seems to work well when you're using the analog audio output. If you were to use the audio passed through from HDMI, I think it would be horrible, because you wouldn't be able to compensate properly for the delay from audio to video.

PlayOn announced support for Xbox One using PlayCast by PlayOn...

LAS VEGAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--PlayOn, the media server software from MediaMall Technologies that streams your favorite online videos to your TV and mobile devices, will unveil today at the Pepcom Digital Experience show in Las Vegas PlayCast by PlayOn for the Xbox One, which is the first solution to bring Chromecast-like casting functionality to Xbox One users. PlayOn will also be showing its new PlayOn browser user interface. The updated PlayOn browser extension gives Roku, Xbox 360, Chromecast*, and now Xbox One users the ability to cast, record, and bookmark high definition online videos from their PC to watch on their TV.

“We have expanded our video casting capabilities from Chromecast, Roku and Xbox 360 devices to now Xbox One. Currently, PlayCast by PlayOn is the only way to cast video from a PC to Xbox One.”

PlayCast by PlayOn gives Xbox One users the exclusive ability to cast external online videos to their device. With PlayCast by PlayOn, users can find online videos on their PC, send it to their device and watch on TV in real time. A mobile device may also be used as a remote control to find and “send” videos from the device to a TV. Simply find a video via the PlayOn mobile app and then “send” it to your TV. PlayCast by PlayOn in HD is the next step in creating a quality streaming experience. Current HD PC-to-TV casting capabilities can be choppy, slow or fuzzy; however PlayCast by PlayOn in HD creates a seamless TV-casting experience from the browser of your choice including Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer and Opera.

The new PlayOn browser user interface combines three PlayOn features – PlayCast by PlayOn, PlayMark and RecordTo – into a new, user-friendly interface. When users find an online video, they can use the PlayCast by PlayOn function to immediately cast the video from their PC to TV. Users may also bookmark online videos to watch later on their TV with the browser’s PlayMark function. PlayOn users with PlayLater can use RecordTo. This function allows users to select shows on the PlayOn mobile app to record and watch later on a mobile device or TV.

“We have expanded our video casting capabilities from Chromecast, Roku and Xbox 360 devices to now Xbox One. Currently, PlayCast by PlayOn is the only way to cast video from a PC to Xbox One.” said MediaMall Technologies president and CEO Jeff Lawrence. “We spent the majority of last year listening to our users, building better media experiences with PlayOn and PlayLater and expanding video casting ability to popular devices. We want to continue innovating in 2014 and look forward to rolling out this new PlayOn browser interface to our users.”

PlayOn will be demoing PlayCast by PlayOn for the Xbox One, the new PlayOn browser interface and the company’s recently announced HD functionality and Chromecast beta support on January 6th (tonight) at the 2014 Pepcom Digital Experience show, preceding the 2014 Consumer Electronics Show. For more information on PlayOn, PlayMark or PlayLater, download the media kit at www.playon.tv/press_kit or visit www.PlayOn.tv.

*PlayOn and PlayCast by PlayOn support for Chromecast will not be available until Google releases the official SDK for Chromecast. All demos and features are based on the currently published preview SDK.

Not exactly what I was hoping for, but it's better than nothing. Not sure if PlayCast works with the original PlayOn Basic, but I'll check this evening.

Does anyone know how to buy stuff on Xbox Music? I mean, besides the subscription thing. I want to get this album when it comes out.

Okay, some feedback and a little rant.

It would be a good idea in the future to bundle all those extra services with the console and having them installed on the HD by default with every console, especially for casual gamers so they don't have to go to the Store to have things working from the get go.

By those services I mean the likes of Youtube, Demand 5, Wuaki TV, RTVE, Hulu Plus, 4oD, Amazon Instant Prime, Netflix, Lovefilm, Crackle, Machinima, BBC, ITV, ABC, RTE from Ireland.

As for the rant, I prefer to watch Youtube on the Xbox One rather than on a web browser. The image is full screen, high quality, by default, BUT there aren't voice controls for it, and it kinda kills the purpose of them when you have to use the controller and you just want to watch video content from your couch or bed.

News, DLNA streaming is coming for the Xbox One, said Major Nelson. Doest it mean Media Center support? Because I've been using DLNA a lot already via PlayTo.

No thanks. This like when you get a new Windows PC and it's full of shite you end up removing.

In total, how much space do all of those apps take up on your XBO HDD?

Agreed. If you want them they are there to download with little effort. No point in bundling them.

All of those listed? Maybe 1 or 2 GB, I can't really say.

Xbox Sign Out.:LOL::LOL::LOL::mrgreen:;) So hilarious!!

I am hoping that they are going to allow Plex to port over their Windows 8 streaming app. I currently have a HTPC setup running Plex Media Server and pull my streams using the Plex apps for my Samsung TVs, tablets, smart phones, and PCs/Laptops. It works great (I have a little 2239 movies now), downloads all the metadata automatically with 99.99% accuracy and streams like a charm. I figured that since they already have the Plex App on the Windows 8 store it should be simple to port it over to the Xbox One.

Man, the amount prepubescent kids is scary in COD. "Xbox, parental guidance..."

LOL, yeah. Some of those brats need better parents too. It's a good thing I'm not into COD, but the problem is getting worse for all multiplayer games. Had hoped XB1 would have worked more on its matchmaking. Would rather play with older players like myself. I'm just surprised MS let the user keep that Gamertag. Figured if it was using a reserved word like 'Xbox', it would have prevented him from using it.

Haven't tried Plex. Does it support streaming Hulu(not Plus) to Xbox 360? If so, how well does it work? That's the only reason I keep using PlayOn...

Tried out PlayCast on my PlayOn Basic(original version, not Premium) & it acts like it wants to work by automatically starting the player on the 360, but it errors out trying to play. It seems it works in concert with the PlayMark feature which allows you to save any web video for playing through PlayOn, but PlayMark requires PlayOn Premium in order to use. I might have considered purchasing the Premium version had PlayCast worked from any computer on the network, but it seems it requires a web browser plug-in on the computer running PlayOn. I never use that machine for anything but streaming so having to use it to PlayCast is counterproductive.

Anybody have any experience streaming Hulu(not Plus) to 360 on anything else?

AzBat, apparently Plex did support Hulu through a plug in but from what I can see it does not anymore. I did not dig too hard though. Hulu isn't available here in Canada so I never really paid much attention to it. For the most part I only use Plex to stream local content from my HTPC (I have a boatload of HD Movies) which are much higher quality that what you can stream from Netflix etc.

I have some channels set up for streaming with Plex but not a lot to be honest. My son uses Netflix a lot but we don't need Plex to run that anyway as every PC, TV, 360, Tablet, and the Xbox One all have the app on them already.

I know that it is not a big deal to watch my local content by switching to my Samsung Smart Hub and opening the Plex app but it sure would be nice to be able to do that from the Xbox One. I would also be nice to get some decent current television content streamed to the Xbox One, i.e. not he last season stuff that Netflix usually has.
