News & Rumors: Xbox One (codename Durango)

That rumour is clearly BS. I saw, probably on this forum, a link to twitter that debunked it.

Edit: Not that the other more common rumours can't be partially BS either, but seems there are some people here that believe it is at least partially true.
you saw.. probably a link to a twitter?
That's settled then, it's clearly BS.

Trying to find it. It said there was an anonymous letter sent out to a number of sites, and pocket-lint published it as this information. Which goes to show how easily shitty information is passed on by the gaming "press."

If you're following this forum, you should have seen it too. Someone posted the link "Xbox 720 to be called Xbox" and someone replied with a link to a named twitter feed, presumably someone in the know, saying this was an anonymous note sent to loads of outlets and only pocket-lint published it.

Edit: What this forum needs (and every forum) is a link index. Whenever anyone posts a link, they are shown if it's been posted and discussed before. That way we'd eliminate revisiting the same old news two weeks from its first posting. ;)

The funniest thing is that there's a paragraph in the pocket-lint article which almost says "what we just said about Durango is most probably BS", they do anything for the click money :D I have to admit it's a good way to weed out the "journalist" who don't have a competent editor and publish anything.

(I probably saw it too, and didn't click it because others here actually said it was BS, my brain is efficient at erasing BS memories)

Kinect has some functionality there, but I don't see it as that useful. If you're thinking about replacing text typing, you can't do that.

from what i tried with kinect on xbox 360, it is accurately understand what i say (im not native english speaker).

i tried by putting custom file into my xbox USB flash disk. That custom file have custom "video file name".

Xbox, video.
Xbox, play "custom video file name"
and it works. The xbox video open the video file. ( i say "open", not "play", because xbox just show error box after opening the file. maybe DRM error on my custom file)

what things prohibit it from being able to "hear" good for typing text?

Edit:
i just realized that for hearing commands, xbox can "pre compute" the possible voices human may use on the available text on screen.
But for "free text typing", xbox will be need to pre compute lots of words with prediction. Maybe like T9 prediction on cellphone keypad (not exacly like that).

it is when i assume that xbox does pre compute things or predict things. i dont really know how kinect voice command system works.

I'm not sure anything actually prevents it other than the lack of including the ability to enter long strings of text. You can do the bing search with free voice but after that you're mostly limited to commands they've included. It'd be a decent enough feature if they choose to add it.

I don't see how a console can give even a half decent internet browsing experience. I'd genuinly much rather surf on my phone (Galaxy S2) than on a console. Even if the console came with a full keyboard, which in itself would be a pain in the ass.

Well the experience on the xbox 360 is actually pretty decent....page loading thrashes my galaxy s3...

Well said.

what about last rumor? Durango specie upped, cpu nnei 1.9 GHz etc
No it's anonymous, and it lacks any kind of journalistic integrity.
There's been a lot of these lately, popping out left and right. Must have something to do with the kubler-ross phases I think, but I'm not a psychologist.

Also it was revealed to be a hoax. Someone just wanted to see how many sites would publisher their made up information.

Aegies:

Durango is using ESRAM, and the efficiency improvements aren't related to that, specifically. It's rooted in extra hardware and modifications to things like how it handles SIMD.
And...

Think real-time asset compression and decompression.

Hrmmm. Are we sure there are not multiple 32mb esram modules?
Ha. Yeah. It's the one block.

it's from an italian site: http://games.hdblog.it/2013/01/23/x...emplicemente-xbox-e-avere-un-tablet-dedicato/

they says that the cpu will run @1.9 GHz and the controller (x-surface) alone can run some UE3 demos @60fps (but without saying, WHAT demo's), another detail is that 2 cores will be permanently allocated by OS
Please read this:
http://x-surface.tumblr.com/

In short, a guy made it up to see how crap games journalism was, and proved it was truly crap, with random rumours given full coverage as reveals with zero checks, and then repeated from site to site with no verification.

And...

Well bkilian said there could be modifications to the CPU like MS did last time with VMX128, so upgraded SIMD is likely this time around too.

Plus, the real time de/compression is just a function of the move engines, who can perform operations on data as it is moved around.

One thing I am interested in is whether or not Durango has a hardware H.265 decoder? It would be very interesting from a bandwidth saving perspective from the perspective of both using the Blu Ray drive to stream data/movies because it would increase the quantity of game data which could be shifted at the same time as the movies are playing and it would be good from the perspective of internet delivery of content. A box which could shave 50% of the bandwidth off internet transfers could in practice have quite a competitive advantage at least for a few years.

Does MS still develop codecs?

Because they did their own and that is why they pushed HD-DVD.

Guess it would depend on how much royalties they're willing to pay.
