New sony online gaming survey....

Shouldn't this poll be called "Which of these Xbox Live features would you like us to have?"

But I guess that wouldn't be good for marketing, would it?

I must be one of the few people who thought the PS2 online gaming was sufficient.

I dont play many online games but the ones that I did play I didn't find them lacking. Once you get a dedicated group of players on a game these extra features dont really matter.
It's been like that on the PC for years.

The main point was to show you a little info about what PS3 online gaming might look like. Not much is know and i think it a safe bet that sony has been working on this for awhile.

Your name is me in between typing these words

not all of those features are in xbox live.

So then you really *don't* want the feature.

And this is why customer survyeys (from any company) tend to give misleading information, and then the customers ask "why the fvck was this implemented...and not this..." etc.

Consumers often don't communicate very well what they actually would pay for. The trick with questionnaires is to try and fool the consumer into giving that information. ;)
Agreed. Just looking at the survey makes me roll my eyes (at marketing surveys in general, not Sony's research). Here's a great example:

* 26. An in game grief reporting system?
Who, honestly, will ever prioritize this over "Ability to take screenshots during the game and share them with friends?" I know I wouldn't. Reword it to:

"Have a gaming environment where cheating and griefing is monitored and controlled?"

and I think you'll find the answers will be different.

Or it could be for multiple purposes... going to the users to get information is always a hassle (to the users !). As long as the end goal is clear, sometimes we lump 2 surveys together just to get more mileage. ... taking care that we don't confuse the audience. In this case, they just want to prioritize a long list of "things" for whatever they need to do.

My problem with it is some of the items seem trivial to strike out. :D
e.g., Access to dedicated forum inside a game
Usually I'd need a keyboard to ask questions on the forum, or even do a simple search. So the most likely and efficient use case is to run upstairs ...unless PS3 includes a real keyboard.

Questions have no context. So when the reader prioritize an item (1 or 5), there's very little background info why the item is chosen. It can be difficult to design/prioritize a product based on this survey assuming that's what they want to do... unless it's for picking out the features to highlight in a campaign. In which case, something about the survey still feels strange though (e.g., Usually you don't sell the features/capabilities, you sell the tangible benefits)

Also I'd love to learn from the existing Xbox Live users what they feel about specific services in XBL. Afterall they have been using XBL for quite sometime now. They will have great use-case insights.

I'm fairly sure they've been doing surveys like this for some time now. I recall reading about a form very similar to this on gamesport or maybe IGN a few months back. This is probably a new wave. Surely someone else remembers this, or perhaps I'm mistaken. Whether or not they have any relevance to PS3 is anyone's guess.

Welcome to the 21st Century Sony!

First a REAL GPU instead of the usual low quality Sony manufactured crap
and now an Xbox Live Clone! Wow!

The title of this thread should be "Welcome to the 21st Century Sony!"

What's Next? Sony to actually use real art and interactive gameplay
instead of pre-rendered movies in their games?

So... the Xbox 360 is, what, back to the 20th century without a standard HDD? :p

Well, the Xbox had a standard HDD and so does the 360. I don't really consider the poor man's 360 (core) to be standard.

LOL, but seriously any attempt by Sony is better than nothing. Competition is good...without MS or Sega, Sony would have never look into this.

Right. It's also not a bad thing for Sony to assimilate and improve on Microsoft's best online features. I'm sure you can find similiar practices within Microsoft, Apple and other companies. However, I wouldn't say Sony will never look into online without MS. Everyone knows that online distribution is the most efficient channel.

Nope, I was happy not paying for online gaming with the PS2. But the problem I ran into was my online buddies. They all love Live for the friend list and the Downloadable content, so they very rarely played the PS2 online.

LOL, it doesn't matter what YOU consider to be the standard. The HDD is not standard feature of the 360 like it was for the XBox. Developers will never be able to take advantage of it for use in games because of the 2 SKUs.

Please don't speak for which you have no idea about.
