Apparently yes, but you never know, these days everything changes all the bloody time.
Apparently both Bluray and HDDVD will be 1080p as default, although i expect some titles to run at 720p. Probably "many" titles, especially boxsets of TV shows.

Most high-profile Sony movies are already encoded in MPEG2 at 1080p ready to be pressed and released, so at least we can rest assured that those will run at 1080p, which is pointless for me since i'll have a 720p panel for a long time, but hey at least the option is there.

I've failed to find any definitive statement that HD won't be 1080i, that's all. Being pessimistic, I expect all we'll get is interlaced.

Even today DVDs can look quite amazing if they run through a proper DVD player and watched in 480p through component. Or even better upscaled through HDMI.

By the way, i never really understood, are DVD recorded in 480i or 480p? As a digital video, i thought they were 480p naturally.

Which is why I'm so pessimistic.

Then the de-interlacing process in most modern DVD players and all PC's is quite amazing.

Either way, HD movies will look so stunning compared to current material i'll hardly care if it's all 720p, 1080i or 1080p.

And note that it's limited to 30 FPS...can't accpet a 1080p singal at anything faster. The whole "1080p" argument is just stupid with respect to games.

Sony has an advantage of being able to play high-def video....for games MS and Sony are both effectively the same in terms of "high definition."

Not necessarily... There are a lot of games (the vast majority i'd say) that only run no faster than 30fps. For those 1080p will be fine. Personally i still think we'll not get that many 1080p games, but theoretically i can see how it could be done. Especially considering the fact that i don't expect PS3 to be able to run a game at such a high resolution faster than 30fps, if even that, for very demanding games!

One other thing to remember is that, unless RSX is vastly different from their PC cousins, HDR and AA won't coexist side by side. The only way to get AA at the same time as HDR will be super sampling, or internally rendering at 1080p and output at a lower res. I don't expect it to be very fast though.

Internally, PS3 is not limited to 30Hz on 1080p signals, so it can very well render 1080p games at 60fps and output a slightly AA'ed image at 720p.

This whole thing sounds a bit too gimmicky to me though.

Read the interview and then post where you are reading this. I read it again and I can't find it. You are quoting someone FROM HERE, lol. Not Mr. Harrison.

Let me help you, "PlayStation Portable has been the fastest-selling machine to ten million units"

Ok, now where do you see what you are babbling about?

Sorry, but it's people like you who bring forums down. You post a reply to me trying make me look like I am in the wrong and in your same post you are implying you haven't even read the dam interview! Read it then talk all you want.

Synergy34 why don't you clam down and try blaming the person who actually said that Harrison said that. I only responded to Bill's post, I even said "Unless Harrison didn't actually say that (wether in that exact quote or in so many words), in which case blame Bill"

Oh and yeah of course, I'm the type of person who ruins a forum. That's why I have a good rating from nearly 4 years and over 3000 posts here..
